Fiber talk.....I must need help on this.

I read that I should be taking more fiber. In fact, apparently everyone should. So I buy a huge Costco 360 tablet fiber bottle, and I take 2 of them. HOLY HELL!!! I end up with terrible stomach cramps and in the bathroom for 4 hours. Well, yes, it turns out that while it had the big word "FIBER" on it, in tiny little letters below, it said "bulk laxative" and I didn't see that. But it had to be a common mistake with that one, because who the hell would ever buy 360 tablets of that aside from nursing homes?

Anyway, anyone take fiber supplements and what do you take. Consumer reports says that "Psyllium" is a good, cheap, safe thing to take. Any experience with it? Really, I just want to find out what is good to take and won't put me through the pain I went through last time.

Re: Fiber talk.....I must need help on this.

Single mode has a much longer transmission distance and is less sensitive to bending loss. It requires much tighter tolerances when splicing though, and it costs more.

Multi mode is cheaper, and easier to splice, but it is not suitable for long throw applications due to its transmission distance limitations.

You also have to make sure you have the correct transceiver modules at each end.

I guess you could say that this was internally "refreshing"?

Re: Fiber talk.....I must need help on this.

eat more fruit/vegetables and less starch. you don't have to overdo it or eat beans 24/7 but apple skin or cuke skin has plenty of fiber to get you.....moving and shaking.

fiber supplements will usually just make you shit your brains out the first week or so, but it'll get better.

Trying to keep my cholesterol down I take Benefiber. You can add it to anything and it won't change the taste or consistency.

I don't have a problem in the "moving and shaking" department. I had read something about it helping to reduce bad cholesterol. Mine isn't bad. My total is 182 and I forget my good vs. bad, but I remember that my bad was a little high and my good was a little low. So fish oil for the good and fiber for the bad.

But I don't want to shit my brains out.

O mighty shooter of dogs, evicter of slum dwellers, the envy of bank employees everywhere:

One thing you may wish to do if you're going to take fiber supplements is to start drinking more water. That will help to counteract the Potty Shuffle.

Also, I agree that your first choice for fiber shouldn't be a supplement. Eat more fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Want me to send you my whole wheat bread recipe?

I take psyllium husk daily. Safe, healthy, and work wonders. Plus that AHHHH feeling you get from taking the Browns to the Superbowl 2-3x daily... uh, depending on the breaks.

Quaker makes instant oatmeal with fiber now. One packet has 40% of your daily fiber, and I eat 2 packets for breakfast ... keeps my poops nice and manly.

How many grams of fiber were in those tablets?

And try metamusil, just mix it in with water.

Try to incorporate flax seed into your diet. It's high in omega-3s and it helps keep your cholesterol under control.

Re: Fiber talk.....I must need help on this.

i believe 2 tablets was not enough and instead caused a negative reaction to your body
i recommend you try again, but this time double the dosage

then post here and let us know how it goes

Re: Fiber talk.....I must need help on this.

My fiber supplement?

Two cups every morning, along with an apple and a banana. Knocks out 100% of the fiber you need in a day in one sitting, while the rest is gravy (normally, I eat two more apples a day). I also eat the cereal for the protein content, since the same two-cup serving gets in roughly 1/3 of the content needed in a day.

Metamucil = psyllium husk, if I'm not mistaken.
