My cat has passed away

Yesterday mourning my cat, Timmy, died of diabetes. He was 8 years old, and my relationship with him was the only strong relationship I've had with an animal of any kind. About this time last year my other cat passed away, I'm starting to think my summers are cursed. I was giving him insulin shots and he was doing fine but apparently sometime over the last month "cat insulin" (it has a more technical term and is not used exclusively in cats) production was halted. Apparently they discovered that dogs can live with human insulin shots, so they stopped production of the kind of insulin my cat needed to survive. The vet said I could try giving him human insulin, but their would be a strong chance that it would shut down other organs. She told me that I had a better chance of taking my cat off insulin and him surviving then giving him the human version. So I risked it, and he died. I don't know why I'm saying this, I just thought it was worth mentioning.

I loved him, and will miss the nights we would share together after a long day at work, and the birds he would kill and try to show off to me. At least I know that he died a pain free death, and that his life wasn't terrible.

That's it, just wanted someone to know.

I'm so sorry, it's hard for some people to understand, but these are real relationships we form with our furry friends. I still look for our 16 yo girl we put down in May. I keep expecting to see her out of the corner of my eye.

Hang in there Blu.

Sorry to hear about your cat.

My pets mean more to me than people in my life.

I have a dog and three birds and they are my "family".

Re: My cat has passed away

Blu Man, so sorry for your loss. I still feel the loss of pets, whether 10 months ago or 5 years ago. They are special.

I'm so sorry that the production of his insulin was stopped; absolutely stupid.

Glad you have 8 years worth of memories to cherish.

Re: My cat has passed away

sorry to hear you had to be in the position to choose between two tough things (human insulin or nothing). I am sure 8 years feels like it was too short, but at least Timmy had that time with you. In his cat way he probably looked forward to seeing you at the end of the day and sharing that time.

Sorry for your loss.

Re: My cat has passed away

I'm sorry to hear man. Only thing I can say is this. Don't grieve for the times you will no longer have, celebrate the times you have had. I am sure he has cheered you up more times than you can remember. He would have wanted you to be happy and not miss him. Just thank the maker that you had those 8 wonderful years

Anyone who says losing a pet is not a big deal just doesn't understand the bond people have with them. It is honestly just as strong as a child I believe. They are there and you watch them grow all the same.

Hang in there man. I know it's hard, I have lost many cats in my day and none of them were very easy to deal with. Just keep those times in your heart so you never forget

He had a good life, there are many pets out there that don't even get that. From owners that beat them, or starve them, or just throw them out. He was one of the lucky ones to have such a caring friend to help him through the hard times. You made a difference in his life however short it was, and that is the important thing. I believe life is all about trying to make an impact on others in a good way. You have accomplished that, for his life would have been very different without you and likely worse.

I have 2 cats now. One of them I got when he was a kitten because the people across the hall from me threw him out when they had a baby and I couldn't see him being out there to fend for himself. The other one was from an ex roommate. He was a real deadbeat and I had to throw him out for being one. He asked me to keep the cat for a while for him since he didn't even have anywhere to go. I took her in without any hesitation and have not heard from him again. I shudder to think what would have happened to her if she stayed with him

I will be incredibly sad when 1 of both of them die. It's the nature of the beast

I am sorry for your loss. I fear the day when my bunny dies. He's only three, but they don't live very long from what I have heard.

Re: My cat has passed away

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Having had to put down my cat over a month ago, it gets easier to move pass the pain and sorrow, and the good memories will always remain. Hang in there!

Re: My cat has passed away

So sorry to hear about your loss. My cat, Snatch, just turned 12, and I know she only has a few years left. Makes me sad just thinking about it.
