Door to Door Atheists

An oldie but a goody....(SIAP)

Australian filmmaker John Safran is so fed up with mormons ringing his doorbell early in the morning that he flies to Salt Lake City Utah and tries to convert Mormons to atheism. Needless to say, the locals were not pleased.

From now on if anyone comes to my door with religious material I will ask, "Can I have your address? My friend and I would like to come to your house and talk to you about converting to atheism and we'd like to drop off some reading material".

Good luck with that.

I have no idea what kind of "success" these methods have, or have had in the past. But I find them incredibly annoying myself. I can only say that knocking on doors unsolicited is seldom appreciated (by me).

I hate to tarnish the entry of my home with a "no solicitors" sign, but I'm getting close to putting one up.

^As we all know Atheists can't read! That's why they don't believe in the bible. Duh!

I guess they could drop off a couple of Camus' and Nietzsche's books.

Just like people who don't believe in the Tooth Fairy are a religion.

Don't you know that lack of something IS something? Jeez.

I don't have any cheeseburgers right now, so I have a ton of cheeseburgers. Makes perfect sense to me.

I just don't have a doorbell, that works pretty well.

I don't get it. Why bother folks who've probably never knocked on someone's door to convert people?

I've always been curious as to what the actual conversion rates are for these people that go door to door trying to convert people. They can't be great at all.

The first two-and-a-half minutes of him ranting are ridiculous. He's like a little kid.

I'm a non-believer themselves, but I'd love for them to come to my door. I'd feign going the other way just to see if I could make them cry.

Well actually, Mormons are supposed to go on a mission when they become adults, and since not many of them want to spend a year converting heathens in Africa or the Middle East, most go to a nice Western country and spend their free time knocking on doors or accosting people on the street.

However, going all the way to SLC seems like overkill. I just invite them in. If they're chicks, I act like I'm expecting a couple prostitutes and start complaining that they aren't what I ordered. Otherwise I try to convert them to some other religion.

Re: Door to Door Atheists

The problem is that SLC has the lowest Mormon population in Utah. When you knock on somebody's door here, you have a 50/50 chance of encountering somebody who dislikes Mormon missionaries as much as you do -- if not more.

It won't matter because I did. Once I opened the door and pointed to the sign without saying anything. The guy says "I'm not selling anything but I would like to give you this pamplet." I responded "Yeah, you are. Your trying to sell me your religion." He didn't respond and he just gave me this weird look that he was thinking of something to say. He just turned around and walked away. I guess I gave him food for thought.

signs w/o enforcement doesn't really deter solicitors.

It's a religion with a built-in theme song: Cheeseburger in Paradise. Yay?

That was my thought. He should have gone to Provo.
