Re: Meeting Famous People

I leave them alone unless I have a reason to talk to them.

Re: Meeting Famous People

Gave a speeding ticket to a Minnesota congressman once.

I knew who he was but he deserved the ticket...he plead guilty and paid it.

And congress wasn't in session so it was ok

I sat next to John Larroquette at a Starbucks in Beverly Hills. I was working, he was talking on his cell. Good times.

Not me! I'd demand an autograph. If they gave me one, I'd post here about how "down to earth" the celebrity was. If they didn't, I'd post here about what an "arrogant prick" he or she is.

Met plenty, but unless it's in a personal setting I don't bother trying to talk with them.

So, was he of the opposite political persuasion?

Same here. Heck, my best friend is a tour manager, and the stage manager at a House of Blues...and even when I've been sitting with a band backstage or on their tour bus, I still try not to bother them.

Re: Meeting Famous People

If you meet someone really famous, like internationally known, you should probably beat the living shit out of them.

While you are beating them you scream "now I'm famous too bitch!"

Later you make a nice chunk of change on your book entitled "Why I Beat the Shit Out of Tom Cruise"

I spoke with Daniel Negreanu for a few minutes in The Mirage casino in Vegas. He had a small dog in a bag around his neck. He was actually very receptive to being talked to and a pretty nice guy. I ended it before he started to (visibly) get tired of talking to me.

You were sitting in a Starbucks while working? Were you both in the can taking a dump? Just curious.

Re: Meeting Famous People

While most poker players seem like they would be pricks, especially the young ones, Negreanu actually seems like he would be down-to-Earth, so good to confirm it.

Give them an unopened box of Summer's Eve. Open it, point to the tip, and say, "That's me. I'm the douchenozzle."

Yeah, I had a meeting in Beverly Hills and knowing that LA traffic tends to be not so great (I live 75 minutes away), I drove out there earlier in the day so I could make the meeting on time without worrying about traffic. Hopped into a Starbucks and worked a few hours on wifi in the meantime.

No, we weren't in the restroom together. It's a one person restroom there. I did of course smear my butt all over the seat so I would know there's a good chance my butt has had indirect contact with John Larroquette's butt. The way I see it, I'm practically famous myself now.

Re: Meeting Famous People

I've met hundreds of celebrities during my years in Hollywood. They are usually very approachable and happy to talk to you as long as they aren't busy doing something else. It certainly helps to know a little about them or at least more than just one thing. Like everyone they like to be recognized for their accomplishments.

Re: Meeting Famous People

I was at a sports show in Jersey a few years ago. Met a lot of guys like Peyton and Eli Manning; Joe Montana; Steve Young; and managed to piss off Reggie Jackson.

I was walking around and went to step outside and who should be walking into the building but OJ Simpson. He wasn't on the bill so there was no one around him but as we walked past each other I said, "Hey, OJ," he smiled and said "hey man, whats up?"

I also sold Mick Foley a Playstation 2 one holiday season.

Re: Meeting Famous People

Back in 2004, when I worked at Sears, Paul Sorvino came into my store. Luckily, everyone in my department was with a customer so i was able to talk to him and get the sale. I remember he told me he wanted the best steam cleaner for his rug, and didnt care about the price. We talked for a few seconds and he mentioned how his movie "Mr. 3000" was in theatres that weekend.

Then again during the holiday season of 2005, when I was working for Nextel, he was in the mall again. Except this time he actually noticed and remembered me, and thanked me for selling him that steam cleaner. I remember he asked me what made me leave Sears to work for Nextel, and then wished me a Merry Christmas.

A very very nice guy!

Re: Meeting Famous People

I've met a ton of celebs and athletes....and it really isn't a big deal, as they are just people who have some sort of notoriety. Most have been pretty cool, and only a few asses. The nicest (Gary Carter, Bruce Springsteen, Paris Hilton), the most down to earth (Trent Dilfer, Freddy Couples, Ralphie May), the scariest (Ray Lewis & Papa Shanga, both were really nice but intimidating), and the biggest ass (Dan Marino, no one else came close). I was the most surprised by Nelly and Fat Joe. I accidentally crashed a private party (booking screw-up by the manager) , and they were totally cool. Open bar (Cristal, Goose, etc) and people just having a good time.
