Re: Meeting Famous People
I've drank with a lot of celebrities down in S. FL:
Paris Hilton (met a girl from her group in the VIP who brought me in the back to hang out w. everyone. Grey Goose.)
Nelly (at a private party, nice guy. Introduced me to Fat Joe. Cristal.)
Orlando Bloom (at my local dive bar on a Tuesday night. tips well. Lots of beer.)
Dennis Rodman [pre AND post rehab] (His bar, my fav. local bar, a club, etc. He liked a friend of mine, so he was always hooking us up. LIIT)
Hanley Ramirez & various Marlin players (they liked a club my friend worked at, so she introduced me to them. Shots.)
Tila Tequila (met one of her crazy friends down at Club Space. I ended up at a table and Tila came stumbling up. HOT in person, sorta angry though. Grey Goose.)
Dani...from Tila's "A Shot at Love". (She came to see my buddy's show. Very sweet girl. Never mentioned the connection until I asked. Beer.)
Various pornstars (also at Club Space. That place is/was a trainwreck. Circus Night..'nough said. Many shots.)
A bunch of people from one of the Real Worlds. (The girls were fun, the guys were douches. Shots.)
A bunch of Dolphin hall of fame types from the 70's & 80's. (It was a charity event with an open bar....dudes can DRINK. I recognized a few guys, but it was "war story" time, so I just sat back and enjoyed the CRAZY stories from the road. Everything.)
3-6 Mafia....They were in South Beach for the annual Memorial Day debauchery. Rappers converge for a crazy weekend. No idea who they were, but a friend of a friend knew the organizer, so we all sat out and smoked cigars at a mojito bar. I didn't say much, as I was the only white guy there and I had no idea of anyone's name. Good cigars. They were drinking something else, but I had mojitos. Later that night someone got shot/stabbed at Mansion. Good times!
I probably was out a bit too much.

Did you ever go to the restaurant in South Beach called "The big pink"? My brother is a manager there, he has met lots of celebs through the years by working there.

Re: Meeting Famous People
I had a friend offer me an extra ticket she had to go see the hockey drafts here in L.A. just recently, they had the Cup on display and she had her pic taken with it (which I think is still her FB pic... she's a big hockey fan). I care about hockey so little that even though I had literally nothing going on that day, I turned the extra ticket down.

Re: Meeting Famous People
I met a lot of movie/tv stars growing up (70's and 80's) because my mother wrote features for one of the major local newspapers, so she would sometimes let me tag along if I was a big fan. To my VAST ANNOYANCE (at the time
) she wouldn't let me go along with her on her interview of Tom Selleck (I was in junior high and Magnum PI was HUGE, but he was just in town for a charity volleyball tournament). I had a teacher that year who was such a big fan, she promised an instant A for the year for any student who gave her something that had actually belonged to or was used by Tom Selleck, so I spent hours begging my mom to steal his towel or something.
She refused and wouldn't even let me come with her.
My favorite one was Jane Russell, who starred in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (one of my favorite movies growing up... I like old movies). I actually got my mom to get me out of school so I could come with her on the interview when I was 13. At the time, Seattle had a TV station that played old movies constantly, which is how I'd seen GPB more than once, but Ms. Russell obviously didn't know that and she was visibly shocked that she had a fan who was a teenager in the 1980's.
She was SO nice, told me all sorts of stories about Marilyn and the old Hollywood stars, but the entire time my mom was interviewing her, she kept saying how flattered she was that I even knew who she was.
Very, VERY nice lady. I still have her autographed copy of her autobiography.
There were some who weren't nice, but I always wrote it off to them being tired/busy/overworked. Press junkets SUCKED, they would have dozens of interviews in a day.

Re: Meeting Famous People
I've been around and interacted in a professional manner with plenty of big celebs due to my work (shooting interviews or working on set), but I wouldn't count that as having met them. By the time someone tells me a dirty joke, however, I'll put that down has having had a meaningful conversation. This usually happened on the lowest-budget film sets where everyone's in the trenches, shaving down the class divide.
Had Thanksgiving dinner with Lance Hendriksen on a low budget horror film, and shot a short film with Ron Jeremy. Both had a damn dirty sense of humor.

Re: Meeting Famous People
I met Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Bryan Singer and Hugh Jackman. If it's not obvious what that would have involved, it was during the shooting of the first X-Men. I had a small technical involvement with the production, so was in the studio from the early afternoon, until about 3 or 4 am. Famke Janssen was also in the studio that day. I didn't have an opportunity to meet her, but saw her walking about.
All were quite pleasant, except Bryan Singer. He wasn't particularly unkind, or anything, just understandably busy.

One of them broke away from the clump and walked over towards the door and stood arms-length away from me, talking on his cell. I recognized him as someone who'd had a bit part in the movie, because at that point, Eric Dane hadn't been on Grey's Anatomy yet and no one knew who he was.

So he walked away, my boyfriend came back upstairs, and we were bemoaning our lack of cameras (except for his crappy cell-phone camera). I kept trying to think of things to say to the group of them, but didn't want to bother them, so we ended up leaving. We got outside and we were POUNCED on by a couple of paparazzi, who were disappointed we weren't anyone famous but then were nice enough to talk to us. They explained that after our showing, the lobby had been closed down for the "VIP's" and they asked if we knew who the other people had been. They then told us that it was the director, the producer, and the director of the first two X-Men movies who were there in the clump I had been standing next to. I had just been commenting on how much more I had liked the 3rd X-men than the 2nd one, and I was within earshot of the directors of both.

THAT day made an impression because it was the first time I'd been up close to someone famous since moving to L.A.. I've seen others since moving here, but the only one I talked to was the singer Brandy (I was walking out onto a beach in Malibu as she was leaving the beach, and I didn't recognize her at first, we just happened to make eye-contact and I complimented her on her outfit, and she thanked me and smiled and THEN I recognized her). Oh, and I got to say Hi to Mitzi Gaynor (another Old Hollywood idol) at a screening of "South Pacific" at the Academy just recently.

Re: Meeting Famous People
Oh, I almost forgot what made me want to post in this thread: I actually know where Reese Witherspoon LIVES.
No, seriously. Right after I arrived in L.A., I tagged along with the boyfriend when he went on a work client visit to someone who was "old Hollywood" and who'd lived on the lake in Toluca Lake forever and ages. He let me come because he knew I'd like her old Hollywood stories (she was a bit player, but she'd known everyone). She took us out into the yard and pointed out which movie stars had or currently did live in various houses around the lake, and as an afterthought, she was like, "oh, and that nice girl who was just in a movie, Miss Witherspoon or something, she lives next door".
Turns out they'd met when out getting the mail or something equally ordinary.
Of course, that was 4 years ago, and who knows if she was remembering her houses correctly, but it's kinda funny, given the Kevin Smith story.

It was kinda awkward, but a very coked up and angry Mel Gibson offered me and some of my Homeys lots of money to have sex with his Ex. I just figured he wanted to watch...

Re: Meeting Famous People
I haven't met many celebrities, but I have seen a bunch here and there. I try not to engage them unless I have a reason to or if they're just so freaking awesome I can't ignore them. The only one that fit the second criteria was Michael Jordan. I saw him at a restaurant in NYC once, he was being seated close to us and I've heard he's a classic asshole but I still really wanted to say something. Alas, I was a tad too starstruck, although I'm sure he heard me say to my friend "That's Michael Fucking Jordan".
This is post retirement Jordan, he still looked like a basketball player.... only fatter.
I met Ashley Greene once. I was just trying to flirt and failing miserably. She was very nice though, and she laughed at my jokes (which weren't funny). I didn't know who she was at the time, a friend had to tell me later. And my oh my, she is just beautiful.
