Six Flags in New Orleans- Abandoned

Some crazy pictures, apparently this place still looks like this... Reminds me of Zombieland:

Interesting pictures and story. Creepy, sad and fascinating all at once.

I had no idea. The part is only ten years old! Very good read, thanks for sharing.

Wonder what it looks like today. That post appears to be about 15 months old. Some of the links there are no longer working. I was interested to see the "A high-resolution satellite photo shows the park during flooding", but it's gone. Looks like whatever message that was on the SF website for years is gone now too.

If you look closely, you can see Clark Griswold and his family mulling about in one of the pics.

Very cool. Very creepy. Reminds me of the girl who photodocumented her visit to Chernobyl on her motorcycle.

Re: Six Flags in New Orleans- Abandoned

I've driven by it many times in the past 5 years and always wondered if that place was ever going to open back up. It literally is in the middle of nothing, just a giant amusement park that has long been abadoned

Defunct parks fascinate and make me sad at the same time. DogPatch USA is one such park. It was a hill billy theme park, and the ruins still exist in NW Arkansas

Well on the bright side, the wait is under 5 minutes for your rides!

I remember that level in COD: Modern Warfare 1.

I wonder how hard it would be to get the joker statue...

It's pretty huge but looks like it's in great shape.

Re: Six Flags in New Orleans- Abandoned

I miss this park, had seasons passes the year after SF bought the old Jazzland and converted it to Six Flags New Orleans... I loved the Mega Zeph coaster... the new Mr Six coaster at Magic Mountain is basically a coaster removed from New Orleans, as is Goliath at Gix Flags Fiesta Texas which was the old batman coaster in New Orleans

There had been rumors last year of the park being reopened under the Nickelodeon banner with more water rides, but it never came to light... Its sad because there is very little for me to do near where I live in regards to theme parks and roller coasters.

Re: Six Flags in New Orleans- Abandoned

My family used to take my little sister and I down to a kid-friendly park called Fantasy Farm near Middletown OH. Even had a couple of field trips down there from my elementary school. It had a petting zoo, a small kiddie roller coaster, a ferris wheel, bumper cars and a scrambler. There were other attractions, but those are the ones that I remember the strongest.

http://www.fantasyfarm.org/

It was adjacent to a "big kids" park called LeSourdsville Lake, which was later re-christened Americana. The two parks had nothing to do with one another, and I understand their respective owners did not get along well. Both parks are now defunct, though the Google Maps image of Americana makes it look like it's still active. (Middletown OH, near the junction of Rts 4 and 63 along the banks of the Great Miami).

I was just about to post this. This is maybe 30 minutes from me. I've driven by it tons of times but never gone and checked it out (though a friend of mine did recently). They used to light the giant cross up at night even YEARS after it had closed. It's right over the highway so it was a landmark I used to use to know we were close to home when coming home from cross country drives.

About the six flags pictures, are those pictures old with all the water or is that STILL flooding from Katrina? I'm guessing the former but wasn't sure.
