The mystery of THE KEY IN THE MAIL.

Just went out to get the mail and the car dealership that I purchased my latest automobile sent me a key. No note, no explanation. The funny thing is it is for a car I do not own, namely a 2008 Ford Fusion, color: Grey. It's probably too late to call and find out if they sent it by mistake, I've won a new car, or they were having a BOGO sale and just forgot to mention it.

Meanwhile, the key sits on the table in front of me, dark waves of enigma pulsating around it. What does it mean? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

It's probably a promotion of some sort. You go to the dealership and get a chance to win the car by trying the key. If it fails (which it most likely will) you still get second prize: high pressure sales to buy a new car.

I'd be worried that the owner of an '08 Grey Fusion got a key to your car, and is more ambitious than you in finding the car it fits.

There is no address on the key, otherwise I might have a new car. Besides, I just got done with surgery last Friday and I'm still flying Air Vicodin. I did work up the energy to try the key in the lock of my car.

It didn't work.

But I don't know if it was lost, and I didn't find it. I had it sent to me. I'd be worried about their TOS.

The mystery and intrigue continues.

I bought a new car from them three months ago. It sounds kind of lose/lose for them.

If you use that key, two things will happen. First, someone, somewhere in the world, whom you don't know, will die. Second, you will receive a payment of one million dollars. You have 24 hours.

I've already attempted to use the key.

Pay up.

What you don't realize is now that you've attempted to use the key

I didn't think posting it on Craigslist would solve the mystery, I just thought it would be fun to see what came out of the woodwork.

Re: The mystery of THE KEY IN THE MAIL.

Called the dealership:

For some unknown reason they sent me the key. They told me to throw it away.

Mystery solved (I guess.)

I'm not sure "Yeah, I dunno. Whatever." counts as a solution to the mystery.

It's the start to an Eagle Eye type situation. I wouldn't answer the phone anytime soon.

Re: The mystery of THE KEY IN THE MAIL.

I bought a TV stand from craigslist and when I got it home there was a key taped under it. Now being the nice person I am, I sent the guy an email to see if he wanted it back.

He replied back to just throw it away. It was the key for his ex girlfriend in college.

Is it bad that I wanted to just email back "Was she hot, and can I have her address to return it?" lol
