Is there a website where you can talk to scientists?

Kind of like those "Ask an MD" type of sites, or like Yahoo Answers but not filled with morons? I have some atmospheric science questions I'd like to ask someone who specializes in that field for a script rewrite I'm working on that's due at the end of April.

I tried emailing some profs at UCLA and other schools but have pretty much been ignored.

Re: Is there a website where you can talk to scientists?

I would think if you tried to ask people from UCLA, USC, Berkeley, etc, you might not get a response because of volume or lack of interest. You might want to try some of the smaller schools or give Neil deGrasse Tyson a shot since he does interviews/bits on the Colbert Report. That is of course if you're going for a planet style atmospheric inquiry as opposed to specifics like Earth weather patterns.

Scour the databases: There are dozens of databases that contain listings of experts, along with their professional qualifications, details about their work and their contact information. Some of the popular databases are:

http://www.experts.com

http://www.expertclick.com

http://www.refdesk.com/expert.html

http://www.profnet.com

Have you tried Zombo.com?? If there's a site where you can do anything like that, that's the one.

This is as good a site as any to ask people who "have all the answers."

I know, there's a lot of info there. You should take it slowly. The infinite is attainable at Zombo.com.

How technical of an answer are you looking for? You could send an email to your local weather man.

Depending on who you talk to, NdT isn't a scientist. Perhaps being in skit on the Colbert report confirms this.

"There's a man here who says he can help you."
"Is it Batman?"
"He's a scientist."
"Batman's a scientist."
"It's not Batman!"

Try Usenet -- talk.origins for anything related to evolution, rec.arts.sf.science for speculative science, and the various sci.* groups for anything specific.

You could do what every other Hollywood script writer does about science issues: ignore them, and get it horribly, horribly wrong.

The Living Dead needs to contact a scientist? You have the answer to eternal life (at least until G. Romero calls "Cut!") so they should be seeking you out.

Re: Is there a website where you can talk to scientists?

I started emailing grad students and found that they were much more receptive than actual profs. I've already gotten a few responses.

Believe it or not, I'm rewriting an eco-doomsday script for a studio interested in purchasing it that actually wanted the science to be a little more specific. I was shocked.

Hopefully the scientist can also tell me how to slow my rate of decomposition. Eternal life stopped being a party the day my dick fell off.

Tyson's an astrophysicist. Didn't know that doesn't count as scientist. Of course, his field really doesn't have much to do with atmospheric science, so he wouldn't be a good choice in the first place.

You go there for science? Heck, I go there to be sexually stimulated. Rare is the day that zombo.com can't bring me to climax in under 3 minutes.
