For those with crowned teeth: how old were you?

So, I just got back from the dentist and I need to get a crown on a back molar.

So this made me wonder, at what age did those of us who have crowns, get their first crown?

And if you want to comment on what the procedure was like (if it was recent) that would be great. I've heard horror stories but I'm hoping that's not the norm.

Had one of my front teeth broken in a fist fight when I was 16. The worst part was the root canal. Haven't had any problems, other than some black discoloration near the gums, since it was installed.

My first one was broken off in a pool at about 17. I still have that crown at 46 but it fell off once about 5 years ago. My first one (of 3 I'm sorry to say) from a non-impact event was around 31 or so when I got my worst tooth ache ever. My face swelled up after the root canal and it took a couple of weeks to get better. That one sucks it has given me multiple problems they had to redo the root canal, and it's still not all the way better after 15 years. The other ones have been no big deal, I had to get root canals but they just made the pain go away so I was happy to have them.

My first crown as I remember was 17 years ago. It had cavity/hole and it had to be filled last month. I have had two monstrous root canals and crowns in the past year. Percocet helps somewhat but I'am still in pain almost every day.

Re: For those with crowned teeth: how old were you?

Had my first crown put on a few weeks ago. I broke the tooth two years ago at which time it had a porcelain onlay slapped on. Then last year it got infected and had to have a root canal done and a filling put on. My dentist wanted to put on a crown as the filling wasn't likely to hold the tooth together for very long so I finally caved and had it done. All of the procedures have been pretty pain free so now it's a question of how long the crown will last.

I think my crones were 5+ years ago. Both upper molars in the very back.

The root canals were nothing compared to the pain I was in before. The crown procedure was really nothing at all.

One crown. Age 27. Just about a month ago.

The crown parts were easy; one appointment for prep, one appointment 2 weeks later for installation.

The preceeding root canal portion wasn't quite as fun, but I was numb enough that it didn't hurt... just dull pain. That was a few years ago. They recommend that you don't wait too long between the root canal and the crown, but my dental plan was pathetic at the time, so I didn't have a choice.

It was far less painful than what I was feeling in that tooth before getting a root canal. I was downing a lot of extra strength tylenol, and would wake up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain.
