YAET - Seller scam with feedback?

I won an auction Sunday night, and paid Monday morning via Paypal.

Yesterday the seller emails me something to the effect of asking me to leave him feedback in order to withdraw funds from Paypal (apparently newer sellers can't withdraw money).

Clearly I'm not going to do that without inspecting the item first, but I am curious how this scheme works (if it even is one).

The seller has 10 feedback, 100%. I paid with Paypal but with funds already in the account from junk I sold on eBay.

Anyone ever encounter it before

Don't do it. Tell him that 'protocol' is he delivers the item, then you give feedback.

Yeah, some sellers just don't get it.

I had a seller tell me she wouldn't ship the item because I had locked it in Paypal. I told her I hadn't done anything, Paypal did that to new sellers, and that she was supposed to send it to me even though she couldn't take the money out of Paypal yet. She turned into a total nightmare, blaming me for her kids not having food because I wouldn't release the money, etc. It would release once I gave positive feedback or some amount of time passed, and I kept trying to explain to her that *I* wasn't doing anything. Despite everything I said (and links to PP info, etc) she thought I was a scammer and lying to get stuff from her for free. She was such a jerk about it (and such a slow shipper bc of it) that I wouldn't positive her in the end, so she had to wait for the 30 days or whatever it was for the money to be released, and then she sent me a snotty email about how PP had sided with her and released the money after all.

Uggh.

he wants positive feedback before you even receive the item?

OP, you're doing it wrong. In this forum, sellers are always to be portrayed as blameless saints, and buyers are THE DEVIL!

No need to even reply to the message, really. Wait until you get the item. If he keeps harping to get feedback, leave this:

"Kept asking for feedback before I left item-- in a weird voice, too. Seller is obsessed with T-Pain."

As a sign of good faith in the original message, he sends me a USPS tracking number that is invalid. Already not looking good all the way around with this transaction.

In my experience, it always took 24-48hrs before the numbers were available to track on the USPS website. The number has to be scanned and activated before it will show up. Give it a day or so and the tracking number should be available (assuming he's on the up and up).

You still have to make sure the item is in shape described in the auction...

Exactly. A no need for Insurance anymore as Sellers have to refund if you are unhappy or if it gets lost. Apparently its the sellers fault for what happens during transportation as well.
