Look at the kitty condo I built!

My GF just adopted a new cat and I wanted to make it a house-warming gift. Some 1/2" MDF and tons of hot glue later its almost done! I just have to wrap the last tube in some rope to make a scratching post.

The door is a bit too narrow. How can I... you get to the cat when you want to?

You do know that after you have done all that work, the cat will ignore it and prefer to play in paper bags and cardboard boxes.

It looks good. Completely carpeted and the sisal rope will complete it. It will be a lucky cat who enjoys that condo.

Re: Look at the kitty condo I built!

My friend keeps telling me he can build me one for cheaper than you can get on ebay or at the petstores. Of course he has yet to do it so I am starting to wonder lol.

Looks good.

Well its true..it is cheaper to build one.

A sheet of 1/2" MDF is $22
A bag of hot glue sticks is $5
Three 6' carpet runners from home depot - $15
PVC pipe is $8
Rope is $10
Paint is $4

All in all it took me about 18 hours. That includes a lot of trimming and such though. If I had to do it all again I could probably do it in like 13 hours. Tpo buy one from Ebay is at least $100.

My girlfriend found that out, after buying her cat all sorts of stuff. Whenever I get a box in the mail, I leave it out for a few days, and the cat is constantly playing around in the box.

Very impressive.

And you could kill two birds with one stone by filling the bottom half with litter.

That's exactly my cat. One week we got a giant 5 foot tall cat house off of Craigslist in the free section. Bring it home, all excited about how much they'll love it. They kind of look at it... and that's pretty much the most interaction it had.

That same week, we also got a coffee table off CL. Bring that home, and it's like we got them the greatest gift ever. They immediately jump on it, start rolling around, one hides under while the one on top bats at her.

We relisted the cat house on CL... still have the coffee table.

Re: Look at the kitty condo I built!

I got a huge cat tree on ebay and my cats still think it's one of the best things ever. Not to say they don't enjoy a good paper bag or box, but they use it all the time. You just have to figure out what your cats want. Mine HATE the little cubbyholes in so many, but like the sitting/sleeping platforms, so I got one with as many of those I could get (still have one cubby they rarely use).

Re: Look at the kitty condo I built!

Oh I bet the new kitty will love the cat tree!

Ha if you were nearby, I'd contract you to build a third cat tree for our cats. They're rather pissed at me right now, we adopted a dog this weekend. 15 years with our oldest cat. Yeah, I'm getting the stink eye.
