Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

I just saw one in this company's catalog.

USB Mouse Jiggler

It's possible that IT may have the USB ports locked down though.

I just hope my place of employment doesn't think of this. IT does random rounds and checks people's computers, as a way to help comply with HIPAA, which doesn't have a spec. requirement to do that.

(Trying to beat the inane stupidity of the "find a new job" guy)

Why don't you just get promoted an then you can make up whatever rules you want?

Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

In the past few years the management of my company seemed to come up with new rules just for the sake of making them. We think they do that so their job looks important. Among the rules this past winter were no wearing wool hats and no washing your hands within fifteen minutes of breaktime. They lasted about a week before everyone continued as before.

Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

The call centers I used to work at had tons of these stupid little rules and policies. So glad I am finished with them.

I stick a quarter in the keys so my computer doesn't lock out.

Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

I would just put in a request for a new computer every time you get locked out. They'll get the idea real quick.

Did they at least give a reason for these?

Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

hmm, my guesses are these:

The washing hands close to breaktime was because people would say they were going to wash hands and then just happen to let that breaktime slide into the lunch break, thus giving them an extra 15 minutes of break time?

The wool hat...I got nuttin

...ok, maybe someone was allergic?

Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

We have 90 seconds here. That's pretty rough, but not as bad as 30 seconds.

We do it mainly for HIPAA reasons. Many of our users in the field have confidential info on their screens and the knuckleheads don't lock their machines when they walk away from them, so it gets locked for them.

Those of us in corporate are exempt from this rule though.

I lock my machine whenever I leave my office for anything.

Hollow laugh. These sorts of rules are created by well-meaning but clueless people in management, who of course either a) are away from their desk so frequently that they are unaffected, or b) give themselves an exemption.

No ... that one was "Why don't you just quit living and come back with a new life?" That was one heck of a trick!

Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

Wow and I thought it was bad when a former employer said we couldn't watch R-Rated movies anymore (our response was to watch unrated movies).

Who else has gotten in trouble at work for watching Mondo Cain documentaries?

Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

Window Media Player to the rescue! It seems, as long as music is playing on this program it avoids the lockout! So, now we just put some random song on repeat, turn the volume down, and voila!

Re: New Annoying Work Rule...

It's over.

My boss presented pretty clear evidence that this rule is in fact ludicrous...they have agreed to switch it to 10 minutes. (sorry to disappoint)....
