Anyone here an Old School Otter like me?

I know I don't post too often, but I am a true old school otter. Does anyone else remeber the get togethers we had in NYC? Some guy arranged for a discount on DVDs at a store in Times Square and we had lunch at a barbeque place in that area as well. I believe there were several of these that were organized although I only went to one...probably about 10 years ago (maybe longer). Anyone else old school and remember these get togethers. I remember that after our get together the organizer (forgot his name) even photoshopped an email of us on the subway with a topless woman...very funny lol!!!

Buck Naked can't be bothered with insignificant details like time lines, and who he stiffed for lunch.

I personally like to think of myself as a 'Vaudeville Performing Otter', thank you very much.

plus some might even dispute September 2001 counting as "old school". Hell, January 2000 doesn't even give me much cred!

Re: Anyone here an Old School Otter like me?

I think to be considered "old school" you need to know what half the rules of Keyser's bar were in reference to.

KEYSERS' OFFICIAL:
LIST OF OTTER FARM RULES
(as posted on the wall of the virtual bar)

This way there are never any questions!

1) All polls must include "Twikoff" as an option.
2) Whenever a beautiful woman (or any woman, for that matter) is mentioned in a thread, it must be followed by a sexy picture of that woman.
3) Any mention of 13-15 year old girls must be followed by a reference to DTSC
4) Any member can hit on Madame Tourvel (She is no longer taken by Bushdog)
5.) If you disagree with an argument...Call that person closed minded...they love that.
6) We miss Bushdog.
6a)Pick up the phone Neo... or she'll scratch your eyes out.
7) if you cant think of any good reply to a thread, just make a joke about Jules instead
8) Do not apply logic to the Other forum
9) do not give an ostentatious newbie any respect especially if they take it upon themselves to make annoying jokes about you
10) Any threads discussing fruit must contain a reference to RandyC.
11) Occasionally make obscure (or not so) references to prior members or threads, such as " My dad is a doctor", solely to confuse newer members.
12) Acknowledge Blade as being a larger than life folk hero (he is 9 feet tall you know)
13) If you get picked on, threaten to sue for slander and/or libel
14) All freshly posted pics must be subjected to Dr. Deans approve-o-meter.
15) Realize a joke is a joke, take it lightheartedly
16) Any story with an unbelievable aspect should include a reference to Shaggy
17) Haze the ostentatious newbies till you 1)make them cry, 2)make them run away, 3)make them immune to it
18) Any story about privacy and lack thereof must have a mandatory Jeremy Lancaster reference. (Circa 1982 of course)18a)Then, some newbie must ask who J.L. was.
19) Now and then a "kekeke" must be thrown in without explanation. Only to be explained later...
19a) Same goes for "______ is sukkk".
20) Don't talk about post counts
21) Any time damn is used as an adjective it must be followed by an underscore a la damn_skippy
22) The bar is open only on Fridays and drinks are served only by Keyser Soze.
23) Any posts to or about the aforementioned Keyser Soze must feature a reference to Sade, and or a " "
24) If this is your first time at the Otter Farm, you have to fight.
25) Office Space threads must be started on a regular basis just to piss Jules off.
26) "I'm in love with" is copyrighted by Guesswho and the use of said phrase without prior written consent in a thread title can lead to swift legal action.
27) If you work at Blockbuster, you must never go to anyone's house and harass them for your movie.
28) Never stand in a tree with a running chainsaw.
29) KVRDave must be made mention of in any thread dealing with animal cruelty, especially if the threads about dogs
30) If anyone mentions leaving the forum for an amount of time, you must recount the sadness you had when youtoo left the forum.
30a) If they decided to come back, let it be known that they "pulled a soupy".
31)Any time there is a discussion of the elderly or ancient history you must make a joke about classicman being old.
32) When vaporware and twikoff take over a thread with their conversation, report it to the MOD police.
33) Once you sign up at DVDTalk, you are automatically Jules'(and Geoffs') bitch.
34) You must make nasty love to Jules within the first week you sign up.
35) P1forest is a dirty, dirty slut.
36) KeyserSoze (aka Keyser Sade, Dipdork A-head, Scammer Soze, etc.) must laugh at every one of his posts since no one else will do it
37) Nude pictures must be linked, though 'tic-tacs' are ok. (Also, picks of 'bare' watermelons are also subject to linking, to some people, that is porn.
38) No Otter shall use nair 'down there'...we have learned from younger and less mature boards that this is a bad idea.
39) For every stupid person out there, there are dumber people. People of the Otter variety seem to find "The Dumbest Person Ever" on a weekly basis...and no, they aren't ALL from Arkansas.
40) Refer to Rule #2 for any questions about posting pics of hot women. A variety of angles and positions are needed, to make sure shadows and funny lightening don't obscure the person.
41) Any thread labeled MATURE will actually be quite immature in content.
42) never start a pad thread!!
43) never post in a pad thread
44) Rules 42 and 43 do not apply to Mods or the threads they start
45) i_z is the only person who can start threads about hot carl (they are close friends you know)
46) Shhhhhh, for the love of god... never, ever talk about "Misfit Island"
47) any new girl's first post must have 4 pages with in the first day
48) Do not ever call Thunderball "Thunderbutt"
49) You must never say "She gets me hot", the correct term is "She gives me the hot."
50) Oolongs' HEADPERFORMANCE is nothing to laugh at.
51) All neophyite posters will be subjected to having pancakes put on their head if Keyser, P1, Dek, Whogirl, or any other photoshoping OTTER is at his (or her) computer and has some free time
52) JackS and his Jack-Bots are very dangerous. Many who have joked about them, have 'vanished' to never be heard from again.
53) Any post in any thread in any forum that disses the Otters calls for immediate, heavy duty, full scale attack
54) Smiley abuse (especially Frankie abuse) is frowned upon, but usually is really, really funny.
55) immortal_zeus' smiley is wearing a laurel wreath on his head (not a comb-over), wearing a toga (not a bib), and has a lightning bolt (not a shard of glass) in one hand and a staff (not a screwdriver/rectal thermometer) in the other. (At least that's what he says, but we have our suspicions).
56) minifigg gets to have a rule, otherwise she will pout.
57) "The Goblincat rule is in effect"... no questions asked.
58) You must not ignore Penny Lane, or a superhero will beat the crap out of you in front of an American flag.

It takes time to accumulate over 30,000 posts to an internet forum.

Upon further reflection, don't ever tell anyone you have over 30,000 posts to an internet forum. It just doesn't sound as cool being spoken in real life as it looks next to your name in said forum.

I loved following those threads and I wasn't anywhere near NYC. I think someone posted them on the DVD newsgroup too for a while. Could be wrong.

Re: Anyone here an Old School Otter like me?

I'm still kicking myself over the fact that I lurked from April '99 and didn't register until I finally bought a DVD Player in November of 2000. The 1999 join date really does stand out much more.

I'm just surprised there are so many that still post from that join year. Statistically speaking, half of you should be dead by now.

Re: Anyone here an Old School Otter like me?

Tell me when 2001 gets grandfathered in so I can feel like an old timer.

Although, at this point, I think if you even remember Keyser's bar, you've been here way too long.
