Interest? Hell no. I was shocked that they gave me a credit!

I had a similar issue happen recently. It turned out my gas meter was broken. I spent close to 5 years not paying a gas bill. I was never back-charged anything since they had no way to prove how much gas, if any, I used.

I'd put the difference between the normal and new bill in the bank each month. If they eentually make you pay it at least you'll have earned some interest and if they don't catch on, you have a little rainy day fund.

Since you have a renter paying a portion of the bill, I'd call now. Because if you get backcharged, it is going to be a lot harder to get the renter to cough up long after the fact (or possible after they move).

Re: Obscenely low Electricity bills, what should I do?

Ah, that's very true. I can just charge him now and reimburse him if need be in the future. For example, last month I charged him $33.33 since I paid $100. I'll do the same this month, or maybe just make it $40, since our bill should be up around $120-$140.

As for the rates, they have gone up since last year, so that's not driving our bill down...

Is your grow op still running? If not, that may be why your bill is so low.

Re: Obscenely low Electricity bills, what should I do?

I just got an electric bill for $190. Seems we been setting thermostat at 77 cuz it's been so damn hot here. Got my two Vornado fans today.

We were quite comfortable and the 'stat was set at 80. Nice fans!

So, I've been in my house for a year this month, so I know what my electricity bills should be. They average anywhere from $130 in low usage months to $300 when we run the AC a lot during the summer. Last month, our bill came and it was just $35. Surely a mistake you might think. So I paid $100 figuring the next bill would be outrageously large and I'd have to call them up to adjust my old bill since I would be screwed by the tiered pricing structure.

So this month rolls around and the bill is $38. I obviously don't have to pay anything as I still have a credit, but something has got to be wrong.

However, two months ago, before receiving these new bills, we installed new windows throughout the house. Before we had these ugly aluminum framed, single pane windows, and now we have the top-of-the-line Milgard dual pane windows with the extra "coating" to block the sun and keep our house at a more constant temperature. So, I thought my bills would drop a bit, but this is just insane.

Can windows make this big of a difference? And how can my bill drop by almost 75% month to month? I figured at first it was a bad meter read, but two month in a row now? Should I call them up and have them do a manual meter reading? (We still have the old rotating meter, not a digital one).

Or should I just hope for the best and chalk it up to the new windows? (Note: we have multiple computers, flat panel TVs, etc. that make it almost impossible for me to imagine that we only used $35 worth of energy over the past two months).
OP - any update on what the deal was? Sorry for bumping an old thread, but we're looking at building a new house, and they use Milgard windows and I had never heard of them before. Decided to do a search on DVDT as well as some other sites to check into them.

Thanks!

My montly power bill is anywher from $10 to $15, depending on how much I watch my big screen TV. It's an ancient rear-projection, so it draws a lot of power.

Perhaps they used some of the unpaid for electricity and gave him the electric chair

$10-15??

How the hell do you fit a big screen TV into a 5' x 5' room?

It's hard to become a mod. It's even harder to get out once they let you in.

We love the Milgard windows, the noise in my room from the street out front has gone down considerably. We haven't really noticed a big difference in heating or cooling (mainly because we know we need to insulate our attic - and our roommate likes to run the AC a lot). But the windows have worked perfectly and look great.

Re: Obscenely low Electricity bills, what should I do?

If you pay extra on your electric bill where I live, they assume its a donation to thier program for helping poor pay thier electric bill. My sister who lives in the same state about 100 miles away had some kind of bank account where she needed to make so many transactions for some kind of deal so she made an extra payment to the electric company and it went into this kind of fund. She was so pissed.
