Credit report help

I'm getting ready to finance a car so I thought I would pull my credit report and take a look at it.

On 2 of the 3 reports there is a ding for an unpaid collections debt of $57. The problem is that I have no clue what it is from and as far as I know have never received anything from them. I honestly have no idea as to what it could possibly have been that I owed for. My score on the one that doesn't include it is about 54 points higher than the other 2.

What is the best course of action to take on this matter?

I have received several different pieces of advice, but am not sure as to which is the best way to proceed.

Re: Credit report help

Find out who it is from (there should be info on there) and call them. It could just be a mistake they'll fix but it will usually take a while

Re: Credit report help

dispute it as not being yours. you can do it online or in writing. the creditor has 30 days to respond or it gets taken off your report.

one time the creditor responded saying it was a valid debt. i emailed them directly and it was taken off in a few days. getting the names of the execs and doing an email bomb helped.
