Spring time is the worst time of the year!!!

Gah ever since spring time started this past weekend, like clockwork, my allergies have come back full swing. Sneezing, extremely red, swollen, itchy eyes, runny nose... It's just misery!!

My doctor prescribed a triple whammy of Allegra D, Omnaris (nasal spray), and Patanol (eye drops). Both the Allegra D and Patanol are one time, twice a day, and the Omnaris once when I wake up every morning. My nasal symptoms aren't too bad, but my eyes... my god my eyes! Every morning they are swollen beyond belief and redder than a stoners. The eye drops sorta kinda work for a bit, but by the time I'm on the bus on the way to work, they are red again and extremely itchy.

I take Naphcon A eye drops which sometimes work amazingly well, but other times don't do a thing. And although it says use 1-2 drops up to 4 times daily, I sometimes use it 2-3 times an hour! Gah!

I'm going to an allergist for scratch tests, and hopefully eventually to get shots, but even those take a few weeks to kick in, huh?

Summer can't come soon enough. I need to find a hermetically sealed box to live in for the next few weeks.

Yeah, the past two days were brutal here. A lot of (oak? birch?) pollen on every car. I was a mess. I'm on that 'tec and some chloros.

I've been on allergy shots for over 20 years. The shots take longer than a few weeks to work and you have to take them regularly. They're not a quick fix. Have you tried Claritin-D? I use it when my allergies get really bad. Fortunately, the shots are working for me. I don't like taking drugs unless absolutely necessary.

I tried Claritin back when it was prescription only and I didn't find it working for me.

Allergies have pretty much fucked me up, too. As well as a change of weather.

Aren't they the same thing? You just don't like taking pills? Think of them as candy.

So, do they fill the needle with Kool-Aid?

The shots aren't actually drugs. They inject small amounts of the stuff that you're allergic to and it allows your body to naturally develop a tolerance for it.

That's because there are no plants in Los Angeles and Orange County.

I used to have bad allergies in my ag hometown and college, shortness of breath, red irritated eyes, coughing, sneezing, etc. But since I moved to Los Angeles, I barely even get a sniffle.

Spring is great, just had my first round of golf this season. It's been a long winter.

Generic Claritin (Sam's Club or Wal-mart) plus a prescription nasal spray like Flonase has worked for me the past 20 years. I only use it in the spring and can't complain.

I get some relief from rinsing out my sinuses with saline.

I haven't been able to wear my contacts comfortably since the season started. I've actually gone back to wearing my glasses because my eyes are itchy and extremely watery. I'm really hoping I can wear them again in a couple of weeks.

2 words. Allergy shots. Ive been on them for about 5 months, and it didn't take too long to start feeling improvement. I was allergic to half the test they gave me, so I had it bad.

This is ridiculous.

How long ago did you move to LA?

It's kinda weird for me. I never had allergies in the past. Then I moved to the place I live now, that's 2 years ago and I started having really bad allergies in spring. Thank God that Claritin works really well on me.

Same here. Grew up in Kansas, and currently live in Colorado. Most people around me look like they've been up on a coke binder for a couple of days, while I'm clear-eyed and dry-nosed.

Spring is cool, but I know that Summer is around the corner. I hate the Summer, so I can't fully enjoy Spring.

Re: Spring time is the worst time of the year!!!

I take a week of prednisone (cortizone steroid) and it usually ends my allergies for the year.

I live in Chicago and don't start getting symptoms until I'm either in the suburbs or somewhere in the middle of Illinois.
