America's Most Dangerous Cities - 2009

(Not) suprisingly, my city of Stockton rings in at number 5 on the most dangerous cities list. It did surprise me that it's the only CA city on the list. Not surprisingly, Florida has the most cities on said list. Here's how the list shapes up (calculated by Forbes).

15. Philadelphia, PA
14. Charlotte, NC
13. West Palm Beach, FL
12. Baton Rouge, LA
11. New Orleans, LA
10. Baltimore, MD
9. Nashville, TN
8. Charleston, SC
7. Little Rock, AR
6. Orlando, FL
5. Stockton, CA
4. Las Vegas, NV
3. Miami, FL
2. Memphis, TN
1. Detroit, MI

Damn. Charlotte is more dangerous than Philly? Never thought I'd see that day. Gangs are really taking over the Southeast.

You guy's better watch out. Next year, Miami is gunning (no pun intended) for that top spot. I might just go to the ATM tonight at like 2 a.m. and walk home to help boost our numbers for next year.

Odd that the murder capitol of Florida didn't make the list. Though I guess that is per capita and Miami still outranks it?

This is the state capitol of Florida:

Is there a different capitol for murders?

Eh, that is what I get for not looking at what I type half the time. You knew what I meant.

Plus that's a horrible shot of the capitol:

Sums the state up pretty well.

Is DC excluded from the list on a technicality?

The surprise to me is Nashville at #9. How is it more dangerous than New Orleans? (Other than the obvious "no one lives in NO anymore")

I'm a little surprised Atlanta stayed off the list, they've been pretty high on this list/violent crimes lists before.

Once again the city of D-troit showing you clowns how it is done!

Seriously though, is anyone shocked that the big D tops the list? I am not. Where is Camden, NJ? Even I won't go there and I am friends with a lot of people there.

Re: America's Most Dangerous Cities - 2009

The news has been bad for decades, but there may yet be hope for Detroit. The city's new mayor, Kenneth V. Cockrel Jr., assumed office on Sept. 19, 2009--and hasn't committed a single felony.
Things are looking up. Of course, there is a chance that within a state that already has a huge number of unemployed people that closing of plants will increase the unemployment another 25%. This should keep D-town #1 for a while!

The real question is how is Saginaw or Flint not on this list?

I'm willing to bet Las Vegas is skewed by the number of prostitution arrests. Dangerous? Pleeezzzze.......

It is local knowledge that you don't want around Miami after dark. South Beach isn't so bad, but good luck outside of there!!

Yeah, when I was living there, late 90's, early 2000's, DC was first.

(I actually lived in Gaithersburg , but used to spend a lot of time in DC, but just the safest parts of DC)

yeah, it is sort of puzzling as to why it is on there. but then again, it's just like any other big city, so there is probably stuff going on that's not happening on the strip you'll never hear about.

I don't think Saginaw has enough people to qualify (500,000 minimum), otherwise it would probably be at/near the top.

The old geezers in Florida have been busy.

What's the annual murder rate in these cities?
