Lady contemplates killing herself on my way to lunch...

I was at a meeting today in Sacramento and afterwards, a co-worker and I decided to head downtown to get some grub at the Pyramid Brewery. On our way, we passed by the state capital building, and saw that the traffic was blocked off, meaning we had to take a long detour around to get a parking spot. On our walk to the restaurant, we saw this broad, the reason they blocked off traffic.

It's a crappy picture, taken with my iPhone. Eventually, they talked her down, so she didn't splatter the street below.

so its not like in the movies where they put out a giant inflatable mattress to cushion her fall? Actually the cops look kind of cluesless..... glad nothing bad happened.

I've been to that brewery. I highly recommend it. Great food, good beer, and in a great area around the capital with the chruch across the street. Probally the best part of sacramento because the rest of it is a shit hole.

Don't you hate people people try to kill themselves? Yeah, pretty much a downer.

Decent pic Tarantino.

We had a lady take a dive off of our building in Sherman Oaks CA a few years ago. She apparently had a Therapist in the building across from us and they figure she was "trying to make a point".

She left a red mark on the ground that lasted for several months.

Heh, what do you know. I used to pass that particular building every day on the way home from work. This wasn't on the news tonight. I wonder what gives.

I can't speak for that market, but when I worked for the news in Des Moines we never covered suicides, attempted or successful. In fact, sometimes we'd go out not know what it was, but as soon as we found out it was a guy threatening to jump off the bridge or an emergency call that ended up being a suicide, we headed back to the station.

Something like not wanting to encourage the practice, at least that's what I heard.

Re: Lady contemplates killing herself on my way to lunch...

I was wondering why she didn't try the other building.

At least that one guarantees it. She's on a building that may have killed her if she dropped on her dome, but most likely would have walked away with some broken bones.

I assume you're kidding. The chances of surviving a 4 story drop onto concrete are pretty damn small. It's certainly not "likely" she would have survived.

Really? I was also wondering why she didn't choose one of the surrounding higher buildings because the one she is on looks survivable to me. Although i'm not exactly an expert on such things, but if were going to off myself I would definately pick a higher building than that.

I'm not a professional of physics either, but I'd gather she'd be rather dead if she hit the concrete. People die from jumping from 3-story buildings during fires.

Then again, maybe she was just one of those people who likes to look ahead for their bus coming down the street. From that angle, she could see her bus coming from miles away.

Obviously she doesn't care of the height of the building because she doesn't want to die. People who really want to kill themselves don't need an audience to do it.

Here in Seattle we encourage jumpers to jump, esp if they're blocking traffic...
