I ate chocolate cake with a Nazi fork!

Soooo, I'm eating Easter dinner at my uncle's place and I'm stuffing my face with chocolate cake when my uncle (86) says: "Look at your fork". So I glance at the fork and it's a bit old, large and certainly not a desert fork but hey, it looks like a normal fork to me. So I shrug my shoulders and my uncle says: "Look closer". So I examine the thing and turn it around and holy crap, it's a friggin german nazi fork! Then my uncle grins and says he got it during WWII.

Here's the fork:

Looks like a regular fork, but...

So, what does the 'M' stand for?

And what's the little elephant (looks like an elephant...) with "WELLO" underneath? Could that be the company that made this?

what they never showed in the movies was that in the USSR, if you had kids after the war than chances are that at least one child was stillborn, aborted or died in the first few years of life due to malnutrition of the child or mother

Re: I ate chocolate cake with a Nazi fork!

This eBay link seems to suggest that Wello is the manufacturer (I would agree) and that the M is the initial.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nazi-Party-Chr...12111003r26335

I don't think it's a person's initials but maybe the initials of the unit/division?

Paging namrufmot...

Nope no gold!

And, just found this:

"...marked with the Wellner elephant trademark and Wello on the hilt. The lower handle has the national symbol and swastika and the M for Kriegsmarine."

That's kind of cool. You should get a Saddam knife and a Bin Laden spoon to complete the set.

He liked to pretend each chunk was a piece of Jesse Owens.

It was chocolate cake topped with chocolate mousse from a French "patisserie".

The fact that it retreated to the corner of the plate when I lifted the fork should have told me something was odd.

He also had a spoon with identical markings but no knife. Hmmm...

Re: I ate chocolate cake with a Nazi fork!

From the Eva Braun collection:

Eva Braun firesmoked silverware from the Berghof. Several pieces of her personal silverware stored at the Berghof was brought back in a “smoked” condition after being exposed to fire and smoke caused by the bombing and subsequent fire. Each piece has her EB etched in classic style into each piece. The maker is “W & B”. Knife blades are also marked W & B. I have hand cleaned one of the pieces shown here to give an example of how they will clean up. Great way to obtain a personality item belonging to Eva at a reduced price. Price is per individual piece with no warranty as to final appearance after cleaning.

And Adolf's personal fork:

Adolf Hitler apartment pattern luncheon fork by Caroso in silverplate. Elegant yet simple design on front with the A over H and on reverse the maker name and hallmark and silver content of plating. This piece came from the Braun Haus in Munich and some pieces have also been reported as coming from the Berghof.

I see a Reich Forks website in the makings.....
