This Topic Sucks! - Vacuum Talk

It's time for a new Vacuum Cleaner. I would like a Canister bagless under $200. We don't have any carpet so I don't need a powered head. Any suggestions?

Re: This Topic Sucks! - Vacuum Talk

Dyson - you can find them refurbed for about $200

edit - or maybe for $225

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...O&linkCode=asm

Down from that, Walmart carries a couple that appear to be Dyson wannabe vacuums

like this

Another vote for Dyson.

Re: This Topic Sucks! - Vacuum Talk

I have a Hoover Windtunnel cannister bagless model that I like lot. The only downside is that the dirt tray is somewhat small, so if you have a big place you might be emptying it halfway through the job. I got it at Costco, and it was somewhere around $130.

EDIT: Even though I'm outvoted 2-1 so far, you might consider going with my advice for the simple reason that I actually read your requirements.

Heh, though I'm sure the $500 Dyson works really well it isn't quite under $200. That Hoover Windtunnel does get good reviews from what I have seen, and $130 is by far the lowest price I have seen for it. I'll check it out, thanks.

My link shows $225, where did $500 come from?

I paid $200 for mine, anyone that pays $500 got ripped

Maybe I got a bad unit, but my Dyson sucks (in the wrong way). Mine is the yellow one. I wouldn't buy another one.

I have the purple Dyson & I love it. I'm eyeing the new "rollerball" unit. I sense a purchase in my near future.

Re: This Topic Sucks! - Vacuum Talk

What do you use it for, if you don't have carpet? If you're just doing corners/crevices etc, and not overall floor cleaning, a shop-vac type machine has much better suction than the home units. They're louder and don't move around as easily, but maybe that's not an issue based on your needs?

Thanks for that, but I really don't want an upright.

Using my Shop Vac is certainly a thought, hard to find a downside to it other than bringing up upstairs to use it.

What do you have against bags? They're less messy and in a lot of cases more efficient.

We also have the purple Dyson. I think that is the pet model.

Although, I must say I wasn't really blown away by the performance. Maybe the hype machine made me expect more.

Woot occasionally has them for sale in that price range (refurbs.).

Nothing really, I guess it seems like one less expense that I could be rid of. Though I know that even bagless vacuums have filters that have to be replaced (most likely more expensive than bags).

Cyclonic like the Dyson. Great sucking power.

I too have a purple pet Dyson. I think mine is defective because it loses suction. Starts off pretty crappy, but as I use it the suction picks back up. I should get it looked at.

I've heard that Miele and Riccar make great vacuums, but they may be out of your price range.

Dysons are horrible when it comes to price, reliability and holding up to their claims. They are easily beaten by sub $200 models. All it takes is a Brittish accent and constant advertising to convince people otherwise. Sheep.

I have had a Miele canister vac for years and love it. It is not bagless, however.

I am with Timber. I will never voluntarily buy another vacuum without bags unless they improve the bagless technology substantially. Bagless vacuums are filthy and work like shit, at least if the two bagless uprights my wife has bought in the past few years are a fair representation of the technology. The most recent one is a Hoover something or other and it is horrible.

The Kenmore Progressive 25615 seems to get good reviews.

I'm partial to Kenmore as it is the best vac I've ever owned, I have an upright though.

Went to the Laker game on sunday. In the restrooms they have Dyson hand dryers. You stick your hands between 2 portals. The sign says drys hands completely in 12 seconds, and I'll be damned, it does.

I went to a commercial vacuum retailer (not Kirby), and looked at the models that other people had traded in.

My Eureka crapped out after 11 months of vacuuming an 800 sq ft apartment with 1 cat and 1 dog. My Dyson still works fine after 3+ years of vacuuming 2400+ sq ft 2 story houses with 8 pets. Beat the pants off the Hoover I tried too.

I think I have a Kenmore, that I picked up from Sears 8 years ago. Aside from replacing a belt 3-4 years ago, it's worked like a charm.

That's a good idea, not sure the wife would go for it though. Can't hurt to ask.
