US Currency, Quarters Trading?

Anyone know any sites that trade quarters?
You know, the State quarters?

My dad collects them, and is missing a few of them.

TIA

My son collects them too. You may want to try getting friendly with a teller at a local bank. There's one teller at my bank who will crack open rolls and look for specific coins, if she's not busy (I never ask her to do this, but if I ask if she's seen a specific coin, that's what she does, so I don't argue. It's been pretty successful so far).

If your dad's collecting both mint marks (on coins released from Philly and Denver) we seem to be finding a ton of "P" and relatively few "D" out here.

I'm in the midwest, so I see mostly P's first, but D's end up making their way into my hands eventually. I've built an entire collection of both P's and D's from every state just from watching the change drawer, so as long as it's not a really long list he needs, post which ones are needed and I'll watch for them for you.

I don't know of any sites but I have a water jug full of pennies right by my bed. I think there should be a few quarters in here. Let me check. *Jules grabs the water jug and dumps contents all over bed*

I don't know about trading them, but you could buy them at littletoncoin.com.

Re: US Currency, Quarters Trading?

If you keep checking change, or occasionally check through a roll or two, all of the state quarters you need will turn up. There are hundreds of millions of each date (and each mint mark) in circulation. I think the lowest mintages are somthing like 260M, and most are over half a billion.

Re: US Currency, Quarters Trading?

Note to collectors that the quarter program hasn't ended yet, they are still going to release quarters for Washington DC and all of the territories.

I've also started collecting the gold president dollars. At first I was going to try and find the matching First Lady coins as well, but then I saw the prices! Ouch!

Yeah, the First Lady coins are minted in gold:

And with gold pushing $1K/ounce, these should be pretty pricey.

They're releasing the national parks starting in 2010 after the territories one as well.

Got a good 15 second laugh off that one.

I have the first 7 or so states in coin rolls straight from the bank. Im not sure if this makes them 'uncirculated' but the mint sent them to the bank then on to me. So the end coins in the roll may have been touched by human hands but the 38 inside ones I believe are untouched by filthy scumbags.

Oh man is there a worse investment than coins. Just checked ebay, most of these rolled coins from 2000 are going for about $13 plus shipping. After ebay takes its cut Im looking at a 50 cent profit on a $10 investment from 9 years ago.

I got a huge tin of wheat pennies that my grandfather gave me, theres probably 1000-5000 in there, total value is probably 2 cents each.

On the Martha Washington coin, Martha looks a lot like George.

I guess you haven't checked the stock market the last few months.

So it sounds like you paid $10 a roll, which would be face value, correct? A roll of quarters will never go below that, so from an investment perspective, you'll never lose your principal because these will never be worth less than face value. If you want to try to get the most from an investment, ebay can be a terrible place to do it nowadays because they hit your with their fee, plus their PayPal fee (since they got rid of paper payments), which really sucks if you're barely making anything to begin with.

I got a huge tin of wheat pennies that my grandfather gave me, theres probably 1000-5000 in there, total value is probably 2 cents each.
So each doubled in value? Not bad.

It might be tedious, but check them out, since there might be some winners in there (i.e. 1914D, 1922, etc). Unless he was a coin collector who looked at dates and mint marks and kept the rare ones out of the pile, it's possible that there are some keepers in the lot.

Today I got one of the new "America the Beautiful" quarters.

What's next? The United States of Shame/Awesome Collection?
