I was at home pacing between the news and the DVD Talk link above.

The DVD Talk thread was giving me news faster and more accurately than the television, and the online news sites were completely jammed.

I got up that morning and checked my email. A cousin emailed everyone in the family that terrorists had flown a plane into the WTC, then flew another plane into the other tower. I thought he was joking, and told him so.

Since then, I check the news every day before I check my email.

It's one of those events that old people remember, like the assassination of Kennedy, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, or the attack on Fort Sumter.

History class in 10th grade. My history teacher's sister was a flight attendant so he didn't know what was going on until they wheeled a TV in the classroom. I remember kids left school early because they had relatives who worked at the WTC and whatnot so it was a crazy day (I lived in New York at the time of the attacks).

It was also picture day. I still have my student ID so I know what I was wearing, too. Crazy.

Was on the freeway driving to work (west coast) halfway listening to the morning radio guys when their tone (usually humorous) caught my attention as they talked about a plane hitting the tower. Got to work and everyone was freaking out. One TV in the breakroom so that's where most people were until we were told to go home.

Since that day, I have put out my flag every day - at first for 9/11 but now for our troops.

When the first plane hit, I was in the shower getting ready to go to class. Then went to class, and the professor made a comment about the WTC and then continued with the class (no one thought it was a huge deal at that point, more like the bombing in 1993). By the time I walked back to my fraternity house, the first tower was down.

I decided not to go to my next class, then they closed school. I'm really surprised I wasn't in that thread.

I still remember the Bert Show doing their 24 hour live show just reassuring everyone that things would be OK.

wow i just got goosebumps reading that old thread...even though i wasn't around back then. i remember my brother calling and telling me to turn on the news and it was shortly after the first plane hit and then about 10 minutes later i watched the second plane hit on cnn. can't remember if i had work or had to be at school that day but i just stayed glued to the tv all day. i remember watching both towers fall in real time not slow motion replay.

Woke up, saw the news and wondered about whether or not we made a mistake in bringing children into the world.

My law school's computer lab, checking e-mail or something. A friend came in the room and told me the towers were hit. We tried checking CNN.com, but it was getting slammed, so we went to the commons. It was packed and everyone was silent, just watching the news.

In class. Our professor knew about the attacks, but we students didn't. She decided not to tell us what had happened because it would distract from the lesson plan for the day.

I was at work. I saw the headline about the first plane hitting and then the internet became useless for quite a while. I made some stupid joke about it since it was at first assumed to be a small single-engine plane which had accidentally hit the tower. Then the rest of the news started pouring in and I felt like an ass.

I was driving to work, heard the news on the first one on the way in, then the second one at work.
My boss and coworker flew over the WTC coming home about 20 minutes before the first one. They didn't know about it till they landed in Raleigh.

I was actually in the Trade Center that day, on my way to work.
It was a mess, I was in therapy for almost 2 years....I saw things that still don't like to talk about all these years later.

I was in my house when my dad woke me up after the first plane collided with the tower. I saw live when the second one struck and I will never forget that moment in my life.
