Why are women so into shoes?

Maybe someone can answer this one. Some women people collect hundreds or more. Even big political figures like Emelda Marcos had hundreds or thousands of pairs. Sex and the City was all over Manolo Blanik (sp) and women go ga-ga over Jimmy Choos. Now, I can understand the fascination with clothes in general. Everyone notices clothes and they make a fashion statement. But who looks down at people's shoes? Other women?

Women are into shoes because they're programmed to believe that's what they should do at a young age. Then, that programming is reinforced by shows like Sex and the City.

Besides, it's not just women. There are plenty of male shoe collectors out there. Start a thread asking to see how many Air Jordans people own, and you'll find plenty of guys with 10-20 pairs of $120 shoes that have never been worn.

Usually your shoe size never changes but your clothes size might. It's something that no matter how fat or bloated you feel they will always look nice.

My wife told me exactly why she loves shoes... b/c a lot of times women will be unhappy that they've gained a few pounds or got a bad haircut or something else that makes them feel bad. But their feet never/rarely change and it's always easy to find a pair of shoes she owns that she really likes or if she's shopping it's easy to find a new pair she likes.

That said, we don't own or buy expensive shoes... just inexpensive/on-sale shoes at regular shoe stores/department stores.

Yeah, those crocks. They are supposed to be comfortable but they sure are ugly.

I've never known a man who cared about a woman's shoes, unless they were involved with bedroom fun.

I know kids really like them because you can slip them on and off, but they don't come off as easy as flip flops when you run.

Parents, well, I don't really know. I guess they're just trying to look cool in front of 8 year olds that think wearing crocks is cool.

I am a sneaker addict but I never understand why people would collect them and not wear them.

I own 20+ pairs of sneakers and every pair has been worn. To me it is one of the few ways to express my mood etc. and put a spin of creativity in what I wear.

I'm a woman and I've never been into shoes. I'll spend no more than $25 on a pair (usually tennis shoes or men's sandals) and wear them until they need to be replaced.

I'm not a clothes horse either. I wear them, but just not into fashion - I mostly wear jeans, t-shirts, shorts and sweats.

I'm one of a kind!

I love shoes. And this ^^ is part of it, but I also think having a nice selection of shoes really makes or breaks and outfit. It's like a tie on a man's suit. It's a splash of color, a nice decorative touch, something unique about your outfit.

I think shoes are yet another "piece of flair" for women to buy/critique/lust after. As a man, I happen to love shoes, though unfortunately my taste far exceeds my budget. I like them for comfort and looks. I never understood buying shoes and not enjoying them.

Exactly what I always thought and compared it to. I own about 25 ties that go with almost every possible arrangement of outfit. Yet I only have three dress shoes.. black loafers that are comfortable for work and brown and black oxfords. I also only have three sneakers (an everyday pair, a nice pair for going out and a pair for the gym) and a pair of flip flops. I think that is a lot for a guy.

My favorite thing to do at a bar is to go up to a girl and compliment her shoes. They LOVE it.

I'm not really into shoes. I have one dress pair, walking shoes, hiking boots, and sandals.

Oh, and several pairs of kinky boots in my "costume" closet.

Its funny because shoes are one thing my wife is really into as well... She's not into a lot of the typical things a number of women are into (jewelry, clothes, "chick flicks") but she loves some damn shoes.

There are foot and shoe fetishists. Watch a Luis Bunuel movie. I've never heard of a necktie fetishist.
