He lost me when he said "social media family". Social media and "family" are about as disparate and oxymoronic as they come

Will Smith as the Genie really doesn't look that bad. It's supposed to be a whimsical character. All this "nightmare fuel" nonsense is the typical overreaction everyone seems to delight in these days.

When people say "it's always good to make new friends!" I say bah humbug to that. I have enough friends. I don't want anymore.

The Sharknado! movies are very entertaining and very re-watchable.

I think most really mean new acquaintances. It's just not possible to keep up with dozens of people.

Re: What's your unpopular opinion?

Strangest thing I learned about French Toast is that some people eat it with salt and pepper, instead of maple syrup. My wife, for example. Though she'll eat it either way.

I had just never heard of such a thing, before.

They also call American-style bacon "streaky bacon"

Do they? What's considered just bacon?

If you can't tell, I have traveled out of country only a couple of times.

I think it's closer to Canadian Bacon/Ham.

Re: What's your unpopular opinion?

^ yup. The first time I actually heard the term "streaky bacon" was on a Techmoan video on YouTube. He was reviewing some bacon cooking thing and talked about streaky bacon.

Although Canadian bacon is definitely similar (the exact same?) as what Brits consider to be bacon, it's weird... because in Canada, most bacon you buy is streaky bacon and there's a bunch of choices. There's only ever a couple Canadian Bacon options.

edit: here's the video

Re: What's your unpopular opinion?

Sorry I derailed the thread a bit. lol

Saw that post about French Toast and it reminded me of a recent episode of Masterchef UK Professionals. I was caught off guard hearing a Michelin Star chef call it Eggy Bread.

Catching up on this thread. Now I know why Mrs Danger had eggy pancakes for lunch yesterday.

Placing your toothbrush in the bathroom must be the dirtiest place one can put it in, amirite?

Salt and pepper on French toast sounds disgusting, but almost as bad, and maybe even worse, is Aunt Jemima's fake maple syrup (a.k.a. corn syrup). Blecch! Either the real thing, or nothing at all.

Re: What's your unpopular opinion?

Yeah, it's not at all appealing to me, either. I could, however, see that it's kind of like having salt and pepper on your eggs, or an omelette, which many people do.

French Toast is great for sandwiches. Grilled cheese. Grilled ham and swiss. Grilled cheese and bacon.

Re: What's your unpopular opinion?

I’ve always wanted to try a Monte Cristo; it seems like of those food items that would have been considered “fancy” in the 50s or 60s, but fell out of favor and became an old people thing.

A local restaurant I occasionally visit has a Monte Cristo that is allegedly very good, but it’s only served as a daily special and they never have it when I’m there.

When I was a kid, we would regularly eat it cold (no syrup) as a snack while out ice fishing, skating or hiking.

I donít see Monte Cristos on many restaurant menus but when I do I have a tendency to order one. A Monte Cristo dipped in raspberry jam? Thatís good eating!

Re: What's your unpopular opinion?

You guys are nuts over the Monte Cristos. It would be fine if not for the maple syrup. One considers those ingredients together and thinks "no way that can work!" And one would be right.

Wikipedia now tells me most varieties are savory. The one I had in a crappy upstate NY diner came with the syrup.
