I'll just hazard a guess they look something like a siberian elm. They are fast growing scrub trees that will die in a few years. What you are seeing in the picture is about all they ever do. If you like that, go for it. I planted some years ago and shortly after they looked like that they all died.

I know I've seen those but don't know the name of them. That is not the type of tree you would want just one. Those are typically planted in a row, used as a windbreak or privacy boundary. Like Brian Shannon said, I've seen these die rather fast, like within 10 years or less many times.

That's disheartening to hear that they don't live long..

Depending on the cost, I don't have a set amount to get. It would be used for privacy..

How long they live also depends on the quality of the site. Fast growing trees like this and willows, poplars, etc. require a lot of water, the right type of soil, etc. If you know of a local tree nursery, you could go down there and ask about good options for privacy barrier.

It's either a Swedish Columnar Aspen or a Tower Poplar. You'd need to provide a closer picture of the leaf for me to know for sure.

Both are fine trees, useful as hedges or in tight spots. Neither have special water or soil needs. They grow very quickly - the ones in the bottom picture are probably only three years old. They live about 50-100 years.

Shazam sounds like he knows his trees. Sorry if I provided any bad information.

These are fairly new heavily hybridized trees in the poplar family that have had basically all their bad traits removed. They're pretty drought resistant as well. Damn Swedes.
