YACT: What should I get for $65k?

Titles asks it all.

Which car should I get for $65k and why? A used Porsche? A jaguer? A Honda Civic? Dodge Challenger? What would you choose?

But seriously, I drive a Civic and am happy with my choice. Sure, I could be sporting some awesome car, but I like the practicality and economy of my Civic.

I think everyone shoud buy a flashy expensive car at least once. After you buy one and you know what it's like, your perspective changes on future purchases and you treat people differently when they try to show theirs off. Then you can drive a practical car and never look back.

I wish it were that easy.. Now that I've owned a flashy expensive car, I can't "downgrade" to anything less.

To the OP, used Porsche 911 Twin Turbo prices are at their lowest prices ever! You can pick up a low-mileage 2002-2003 TT for $55-60K. If you're into convertibles, the Boxster is a great car as well!

Eh, I've never owned one, but drove my parents' Porsche and Mercedes much. I guess it's just not my style, because I've always been happy with my cheap cars.

Are there flying cars yet? Because if there is, you should totally get one of those. If not, get one that shoots rockets. That'll teach those stragglers on the road!

Save money for gas and repairs. Especially if you pick up a 996TT!

However, I'd probably go with a new/used base 997. Dealers may actually give you a good amount off. Might be worth a look.

The M5 is a blast to drive on the track, but even with regular driving I think it's something like 12/19mpg.

Why not get something good, but leave a good chunk left over? Nicely equiped 5 series or A6? Or are you looking at buying a nice car once and only once and now is the time?

I'll second that once you go nice it's very difficult to go back. I have an Acura that has served me well and is a great car, but then I bought a BMW.

I doubt I'll be going back to Asian cars in my lifetime. A shame really, since they are very well built and reliable cars.

Mopower, that Nissan GT-R is one hell of a fast car.... But it's way more than 65k. I know someone on the waiting list who is being charged $25k over list. I heard of people paying > $50k over but I don't know if that's just a rumor.

So I have to cross that off the list.

I already have a cheapo daily driver. I want something "nice." I'm entertaining all suggestions.

Not being married has it's advantages! There's no way I can pull this off if I were married.

I know what I would get:

The classic Studebaker Avanti 1963. That and a driving permit.

How about a Shelby GT500 Super Snake. Taking into consideration the extra $25,000 in upgrades, it's right at $65,000.

I worry about aftermarket stuff. So I think upgrading that Shelby would be out. I have the impression that parts wear out quicker/warranty is voided etc if it is heavily modded.

That Audi S5 looks slick! Hmm.

New, personally, i'd strongly consider the S5 or M3

other notables are the Elise, Exige, TT-S, vette, though the z06 is pushing it.

if you're looking for a sedan, i'd look at the 335, S4 and IS-F.

Used, for some reason i love Maserati. other than that, i like the 911 TT
