Tips on fancy tailgatin' + Bonus Thread: N/A

As you may know, I'll do anything* at least once. So this Sunday some friends and I are going what I can only call fancy tailgatin'. The event is some sort of amateur steeplechase horserace that seems to be popular with the upper crust in this area. I'll assume that no one here has been to this particular event, but I was wondering what tips y'all might have regarding the general topic of fancy tailgatin', as a whole.

Here are some pictures from the event to give you an idea of what we're talking about:

What kind of tailgating would you do when faced with fancy tailgatin'?

Suggestions so far have included:

  • Drink (mint juleps, specifically)
  • Play dominoes
  • Bring a weight bench and tie a pit bull to it

Should we bring some sort of chew? Or is it "chaw"? Either of the cool, refreshing Copenhagen type or the common, stale Big League?

Also, what do you think of ascots? Or, perhaps more specifically, what the fuck are they?

* Almost anything! Sorry, TracerBullet / Minor Threat / you.

Steeple chases are great!! I miss them, as I'm not classy enough for them anymore (and I don't have corp. clients taking me). Big hats on women, and cigars and froofy talk by the men. Oh, and a slip and slide....err....wait, that is what we're bringing to the Preakness this year. The infield is the opposite of classy.

Are you sure they'll welcome your "type"?

Where are you attending this, out of curiosity?

Winterthur.

I'm guessing there's a 50/50 chance that I'll show up and someone will just hand me a rake and say, "Habla con Manuel" and point at some random guy.

My brother applied for a custodial job there. He's not Hispanic, though.

Chew? Chaw? For that crowd, maybe some snuff.

OK, here's the checklist of what I'm bringing:

  • Hennessy Paradis Extra
  • Maker's Mark
  • Mint (see above)
  • Miller High Life

This should be fun, especially considering I got about 4 hours of sleep.
