Father Imprisoned Daughter for 24 yrs and Fathered 7 of her Children

Story Here

Austrian Man Confesses to Keeping Daughter, Her Children Captive in Cellar

AMSTETTEN, Austria A man has confessed to imprisoning his daughter for 24 years in a windowless cell with a soundproofed door and fathering seven children with her including three who "never saw sunlight," police said Monday.

The man, now 73, also told investigators that he tossed the body of one of the children in an incinerator when the infant died shortly after birth, said Franz Polzer, head of the Lower Austrian Bureau of Criminal Affairs.

"We are being confronted with an unfathomable crime," Interior Minister Guenther Platter said.

The daughter, who is now 42, had been missing since 1984 and was found by police in the town of Amstetten on Saturday evening after police received a tip. She and her children have been placed in psychiatric care.

Police on Monday released several photos showing parts of the cramped basement cell, with a small bathroom and a narrow passageway leading to a tiny bedroom. Investigators said an electronic keyless-entry system apparently kept the daughter from escaping from the cell, which was made of solid reinforced concrete.

The suspect, identified by authorities as Josef F., was expected to appear in court later Monday.

"He admitted that he locked his daughter, who was 18 at the time, in the cellar, that he repeatedly had sex with her, and that he is the father of her seven children," Polzer told The Associated Press.

Three of the surviving children lived with the grandparents and were registered with authorities. The other three apparently were held captive in the cellar with their mother, Polzer told reporters.

Hans-Heinz Lenze, a senior local official, said the suspect's wife apparently had "no idea" of what went on and was devastated.

"You have to imagine that this woman's world fell apart," he said.
-----------------

Wife claims she never knew that he not only had their daughter down in the basement for 24 yrs but also claims she didn't know there were 3 babies/children down there too.

The baby who died was one of twins. He claims the baby died shortly after birth.... I guess he has a doctor's license also
It's a miracle she didn't die during childbirth.
The whole thing is unreal.
3 of these kids never seen sunlight.

I don't know how he explained bringing home three newborns to his wife. She must be a piece of work also.

The article doesn't say which grandparents the children lived with...

I was wondering when we could get another "bad parent" thread around here.

This would make a good horror movie. Then there could be sequels.

One where the daughter gets her revenge, then several about blind flesh-eating children that live in the sewers.

But, no royalties for Bad Dad, since it is not legal to profit from your crimes.

I take it that they both lived in the house.

So, when her husband just came up from the basement with a baby in tow, she didn't stop to ask questions?

It says "he's the father of 7 of her children". Does she more by someone else?

In the Article I read:

Man and wife have daughter.

Man locks daughter in basement - tells wife she ran away

Man has sex with daughter

Daughter has babies - man tells wife, daughter left them at our door last night.

Wife cares for babies.

Technically wouldn't his the wife be the grandparent of the 3 childen. Also the father would be the father and grandfather to the kids. His parents or his wifes parents would be in their late 80's to 90's (and technically be both great grandparent and grandparents to the young children).

I'm trying to wrap my mind around this and it's no use--I can't begin to imagine what was going on in that house. It's such a creepy story.

BBC article says the guy and his wife had 7 kids. None of the other kids noticed anything? He fed his daughter and their 3 kids for that many years. Did his wife not notice food missing?

Was reading this last night and it just boggles the mind how someone can do this crap. The wife had to have known, unless she has some sort of mental condition. And the guy probably was building his soundproof cellar room for a while. Wouldn't the wife ask what the hell he was doing?

It seems hard to beleive the wife wouldn't notice something was up. Even if the part of the cellar was soundproofed, wouldn't she have noticed when he was constructing an addition to the cellar or a part of the cellar that was now blocked off. Extra food and expenditures. even making the cellar bigger he would have to remove large amounts of dirt and it would take up a lot of his time. She had to at least be supicious of something. I guess as the story unfolds on the news we'll find out some answers.

What kind of a life can any of these kids have after being locked up for so long; not to mention the probable inbred defects. I wonder if the daughter can even walk properly since the cellar was only 5 and a half feet tall.
