Watch My 2 Home-made Movie Trailers!

Well, my first movie trailer is supposed to be like Cloverfield, but I think it looks horrible:

My second movie trailer, which I just finished is inspired out of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Happening. I think it's really good but I want to hear your opinions:

Interesting that I know NEARLY all of those locations...but I would like to know more about the shaking grass in front of the Sony DVD(?) player.

EDIT: And I have to compliment you on taking advantage of that recent fire (oh, and the (world's largest) livestock show and rodeo.)

OMG...I feel a stalker coming on to me. Please, don't hurt me! But then again, I said I shot random things and put them all together as a movie trailer but the 2nd one is more coherent and I really don't know what the monster would look like...

1.) buy yourself a tripod - the video was way too shaky
2.) the titles needed to be on the screen longer
3.) too silent - needed some music or sound effects throughout (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)
4.) Didn't need multiple shots of cars leaving the city.

I'm a little bit dizzy, and I think you might be in some LEGAL trouble for using the WB and Paramount logos. Seriously, that stuff is NOT in the public domain, even for 'fun' projects. I'd take it down ASAP. (Unless Paramount and WB is actually sponsoring this movie, which I highly doubt.)

Seriously, you can't just paste in these real studio credits and logos into your amateur efforts. It violates several Federal laws. Duh. And the shaky cut scenes basically suck ass.

This is the problem with today's access to video recording. Anyone with a low-budget camera thinks they can create a cinematic masterpiece. This is poorly done amateur crap with many IP infringements to boot. You'd be best advised to delete them altogether, for both legal and artistic reasons.

I'm no film maker, but..

In #1, the music seems completely off (need something darker)

In #2, I had to check to see if my speakers were muted

Is that really true? I mean, vidoes I sent for contest, of course, I use citations....but really? I never knew that...unless I'll just put citations at the end on my movie traiers, which would completely ruin my trailer altogether. But I'm sure they won't, since they haven't sued me for the last 4004056045 months....and I'm pretty sure they don't even care about my videos.

AND, I don't think I can create a cinematic masterpiece...when I've said for the 406546540th time that I shot RANDOM FOOTAGE to put them together for a movie trailer.

I'm going to pull a Simon Cowell here, and just be honest: making movies just doesn't seem to be your thing. I mean, you're openly admitting that you just spliced together random pieces of footage in an attempt to make something that would pass for a movie trailer. You miss the point of the move trailer completely, which is to make someone actually want to see the movie. Be honest with yourself -- if you sat down and watched either of those trailers, would it make you want to go out and pay $9.50 to buy a ticket and eat stale popcorn? Of course not.

You're entire approach is at fault here. You don't start with footage and then try and make up a story. You start off with a story, and then tell that story with your footage. I mean, that's not Filmmaking 101. That's not even the first page of "The Idiot's Guide To Moviemaking" or "Even You Can Shoot A Movie!" or "Elmo Loves His Camera" whatever book it is that you may have read. The whole point of making a movie revolves around the idea of telling a story is so rudimentary, so obvious, that it is pretty much assumed before we even pick up the camera in the first place.

Thus, my initial observation: you're probably not cut out to be a filmmaker. You may have some decent talent as an editor, or perhaps maybe some day, with some practice and a lot of hard work, as a fluffer for a B-grade porn film. But you do not seem to have even the smallest idea of what it means to make a movie.

I'd suggest accounting. Or plumbing -- there's always money to be found in cleaning out sewer lines.

Don't worry moviewizguy, worser criticism has been directed at George Lucas.

Maybe because I'm the only intellectual property attorney here who was stupid enough to actually watch these "trailers"? Seriously, I want those 2 minutes of my life back. That sucked.

And PopcornTreeCt: "worser"???

I ended up getting bored and clicking on the link for Cannibal Apocalypse half-way through your first video.

In your Body Snatchers video... The part that says "evacuate the city", you show cars leaving the city on the bridge. And an almost equal number of cars going towards the city.
