Yeah, it wasn't bad.

However, if what was said about the shots being digital (which i'm sure they are - the old days of "dark rooms" are probably long gone....), then her "guardians" knew what they were getting into and what the shots looked like.

Oh, and I also have to disagree with her regarding this..

Saturday Night Live in a funny parody alluded to it...
It was neither funny nor a parody.

+1 to what Jamie Lee Curtis wrote.

All this is making a massive mountain out of a molehill.

Like someone posted above, you'd see MUCH more of Miley at a beach.

No diff than pics I see of my sister on facebook.

I looked at that Vanity Fair pic too thinking it would be super controversial and its what looks like a really pale girl looking awkwardly at a camera.

She does look a little skinny, however.

But seriously, some of you guys don't take photos with your kids? I'm kinda confused here. She's simply wearing typical attire and so is Billy. Should we have them all in FLDS uniforms?

Billy looks so young and she could pass for 18 so that's why the uproar. I've seen couples like this in real life.

the publicity machine is out in full force on this

at least one NYC newspaper is carrying this on the front page. makes you think how did they get that picture when the magazine is not officially out yet and there is an army of lawyers at Vanity Fair to protect their trademarks and copyrights

That's all this whole thing has been. It has created "buzz." Look at how many views and replies we've had in this thread. We are in love with celebrities. Yeah, I'm pretty cynical about the whole thing.

As the old saying goes, " It doesn't matter what people are saying, as long as they are talking about you"

I also tend to be very cynical. I do think this whole thing was orchestrated by the publicity machine. It's hard to believe the adults in this situation did not know what would happen. This all is 24K publicity gold. Miley Cyrus music and merchadise sales are going to go through the roof.

Yes, this should propel from her obscurity into the spotlight. Now, with her next tour, she will actually be able to sell tickets and not run into the many cancellation problems she had previously when no one would go to see her show. In fact, I can see a major media corporation acquiring rights for her albums. Who knows what might be next? TV?

I don't know enough about Hanna Banana, but I thought all her shows had huge crowds? I know when she came down here, the local venue was crushed with traffic trying to get to the arena.

Yeah, I guess so.

What Bus's point doesn't take into consideration is that she probably has a short term shelf life in her current goody goody form. The young girls who love her now will quickly grow out of that phase and the parents who love her for that image will have no need for her in a couple of years when their kids are out of the young/innocent phase, so she will have to become something else or just wither on the vine.

VinVega is right. Miley has reached that crucial point in her career where she needs to transition out of the tweenybopper image and make way for Act II: Adulthood.

The problem is that she and her parents want it both ways. They want the mature Vanity Fair photo shoot--I can't imagine many kids read that magazine--but they want us to still give Miley the old "she's just a kid, cut her some slack!" pass. They need to figure out what they want and stick with it. This whole tug-of-war media blitz will get boring soon and people will move on the next thing, leaving Miley behind, possibly for good.

There were probably about 10,000 better ways to give Miley a more "mature" image than that Vanity fair shoot. Simply give her a more grown-up, less "teeny" look in terms of clothes. hair and makeup, and mission accomplished without showing any skin or Disney throwing a hissy-fit.
