Jury Duty call-in question

Hey guys,

I received a letter saying that I have to report to Jury duty tomorrow April 21. I figured I would have to call in the day before (today) to see if i have to show up, but the automatic recording is for a different day (friday april 18). Am I doing something wrong or do i just show up at court tomorrow? I'm in Suffolk County long island by the way.

When I did it, I called in and the recorded message told people when they would have to show up. Going by numbers, Jurors 1-30 come at 9:15 on April 22nd for example. And that was the first day I had to show up. But I'm in IL.

I don't even have a number on the form i got.....when I call the message, it mentions numbers C0001 through C0050, but this number is NOWHERE on the form.I have many people review it and there's no number. I just don't wabt to show up and them tell me I'm not supposed to be there.

They'll update it in the morning I'm thinking.

On a different note...I have jury duty starting tomorrow too! Two of the cases that are possibly going to trial I was the arresting and investigating officer. Can't wait to see the reaction of the attorneys.

I tried to get out of it, but if its a civil case I may have to serve.

I always throw that shit away and forget about it. I've never been arrested or anything. In fact, eventually they kinda stopped asking.

Its been awhile but when I had to call it was like call after 6:00 pm the day before. I would think it should have been up by now considering its the weekend. I would probably just forget about it, if it isnt updated by this evening.

If you are that worried about it just go anyways but make sure they pay you. I guess that would be the safe thing and then if you were not wamted you have a day off with like 10.00, if they pay you.

the courthouse is about 2 hours from me. So I rather not go if i don't have to. Plus I will only get paid if my job sees the signed paperwork from the courthouse.

Will this really work?? Has anybody here actually gotten in trouble for skipping jury duty?

Well, I can't imagine it not working - they have no proof you got the letter.

When I was at jury service last year, a potential juror said that the city sent another notice (Summons) about missing the original date.
It's up to a $1000 fine for failure to show.

I received another Jury Summons last week...

Didn't you have to register when you first got the letter? I was summoned last year and had to register, online or over the phone. Maybe that's when the number would have been assigned.

The form doesn't say I have to register anywhere. There's a questionaire on the back that needs to be filled out but doesn't need to be handed in until I get there..

Here's exactly what the form says..

"You are summoned to serve as a grand juror for supreme and or county court beginning Monday April 21st 2008. report to the criminal courts building at 9AM on the above date. grand Jury service is 9AM-5PM monday to friday for 4 weeks or longer."

Nowhere does it actually say to call in the night before to see if I need to go. There is a telephone standy number but when I call it, it's the standby message for Friday April 18th. It speaks of a CXXXX number (which is NOWHERE on my form). I'm so confused.

That would be a must attend from the wording also it's a grand jury not regular jury duty. So bring a snickers (and a book or two) it's gonna be a while.

When I went people brought books and magazines. It was my first time so I didn't bring anything. I assume an Ipod would be fine, as would a phone. They let us talk during the waiting time. But, I'm from a small town so maybe it would be different.

A grand jury can ask questions, a regular juror must sit quietly

My advice, do go to court. But, wear the most offensive, vile shirt you can find and randomly start spouting off KKK chants or Black Panther mottos. Bet ya dollars to doughnuts they excuse you.
