Do online petitions actually work?

Been seeing a lot of these lately. the "Starving dog art petition" the "Orphaned Art bill petition" and The "Stop Uwe Boll Petition" to name a few. I read on another board that these petitions do jack shit since there's no way to verify age. Has there ever been an online petition that has actually stopped something?

You should start an online petition requesting that the government conduct research into the effectiveness of online petitions. The experience as well as the results, or lack there of, should answer your question, no?

There was an online petition years ago to get Warner to release the Willie Wonka DVD in Widescreen that worked.

No.

(The petition for Wonka worked bc sites posted the studio's phone number and people left voice mail messages).
