What happened to a person's right to choose?

Parents Fight Over Which Gang Toddler Should Join
Police: Mother A Crip, Father A Westside Baller

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- A couple fighting about which gang their 4-year-old toddler should join caused a public disturbance that resulted in the father's arrest, Commerce City police said Thursday.

On Saturday, Joseph Manzanares stormed into the Hollywood Video store where his girlfriend worked, threatened to kill her and knocked over several video displays and even a computer, Commerce City police Sgt. Joe Sandoval said.

After he ran out of the store, police were called and the 19-year-old was arrested at his home.

His girlfriend told police that they had been arguing about the upbringing of their son and which gang he should belong to. The teen mother, who is black, is a member of the Crips. Manzanares is Hispanic and belongs to the Westside Ballers gang, the woman said.

"They have different ideas on how the baby should be raised. Basically, she said they cannot agree on which gang the baby would 'claim,'" Sandoval said.

Manzanares was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, and domestic violence. He was transported to the Adams County Detention Facility.

On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to a year of probation. The misdemeanor harassment charge was dropped.

It's amazing that this country has some big gangs like the ms-13, bloods, and crips. I don't think they're any different from al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.

We have a winner, folks. Would be interesting to see the deaths they cause outside their memberships.

People still have the right to choose as far as I'm concerned! I always give people, especially the wifey, the choice between open hand and back hand...

This is just like Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare lives on.

This story just goes to confirm that this country is going to hell in a handbasket. What happened to just letting kids be kids? He'll have plenty of time to choose a gang when he grows up. These kinds of overprotective, career-driven parents are what's wrong with America, IMO.

The gangs should sue for parental-guardian role model rights. The Latin Kings can have primary custody, but MS-13 can have Wednesday and every other weekends, Bloods and Crips can have supervised visits every Sunday from 1-3 PM. This way, everybody goes home happy.

When will people learn, mixed marriages don't work -- you gotta marry within your own gang. I remember when this happened in the '50s, leading to the bloodbath of the Jets vs Sharks.

He has that "faces of meth" look to him.

I suppose it's no different than arguing about which church a kid is going to.

But the best part will be when Joseph Manzanares has to fight over which color of the coffin to put his son in and what type of make-up to hide the several bullet holes in his son's skull and face.

I figure his son is 4-years old now, so...ehh...in 5 years his son will be dead from stray shots, or in 8 years, he'll be dead for trying to rob a liquor store.

Usually those arguments don't end in a Hollywood Video being destroyed.
