It finally happened. Some girl opened her car door as I was driving by and I hit it.

I've always had a fear of this sort of thing happening.

I was driving down a side street I've driven daily for some 15 years and the next thing I know is I hear a scratching grinding crunching sound, and I immediately put on my brakes and simultaneously turned the wheel out and in slightly (in an attempt to quickly go around and cause the least amount of damage to whatever it was), checked my right side mirror, put it into reverse and backed up along side a parked car where this woman sitting in the driver's seat with her door slightly open.

Didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out she opened her door in oncoming traffic.

After seeing that she was alright, I noticed there was some curled up metal damage on the bottom corner of her driver's door and apart from taking some trim off my fender, my front right alloy rim has about an inch thick (and the same deep) circular groove all around in it.

Needless to say it didn't turn out well, as she spent the entire time yelling and cussing at me about how it wasn't a big deal and that I should just, 'get over it'. She said, 'That's what happens in accidents!'. Her dude friend got out of the passenger's side and joined in her yelling and cussing and generally just blowing it off. She didn't want to exchange information, and since there was no talking to her, I finally just took her licence plate number, got into my car and drove away.

The damage speaks for itself.

Great way to start a weekend!

(I'm not dealing with this as well as I should...)

If you haven't already make sure you call the police and report it. Potentially she reported it and at this point you are the "hit and run" driver since you left the scene.

Well what was I supposed to do? Spend the entire night fighting with her?

Besides, she didn't take any of my information.

I suppose I should have called the police right then.

Since she was a bitch, I would stick it to her. Call the cops. I wonder if, since you have her plate, your insurance company can do something.

I know, I know...

I should have done that.

It's just rim damage.

I'd rather never see her again if I can help it.

Definately call the police and get a police report. Anytime there's an accident, no matter how minor, you should call the police. When there's visible damage like this, you definately should've done this ASAP.

Doesn't matter... if she called it in she can tell them any story she wants and since you left it is technically a "hit and run", even if it was her fault. Just a recommendation that you call the non-emergency line of whatever jurisdiction it happened in (or some have online reporting you can try or if it's close just stop by the station) to get your side of the story on record. This may help if you make an insurance claim too, it seems they usually ask for a police report/case number. Just a recommendation... the last way you want to finish the weekend is being pulled over for an outstanding "hit and run" warrant

I'm usually very good when it comes to this sort of thing.

This time I was so overwhelmed with all the yelling and noise, after 15 minutes of that I couldn't think straight and just wanted to leave.

Can't say I blame you... but she may "He was swerving all over the road... smashed into my door and then took off", or "He hit my door and did stop but started arguing w/ me and yelling at me, luckily I had my boyfriend here since I was afraid he was going to get rough w/ me [I think he was drunk too]" etc, etc, etc..

I know it's a hassle but I do strongly recommend you call it in. It's going to be a larger hassle for you if you do get blamed, end up w/ a "hit and run" charge.

I doubt she called in about it. She probably was making such a fuss about blowing it off because she had no insurance.

John:

Mrs. D: That's what Treesa said!

Okay nemein & everyone else! I'm gonna do what you guys ask.

Like you say, it's better being safe than sorry.

Damn! I have a camera in the car and everything. I usually have this stuff seriously covered, but as I said, this time, I was knocked off my rocker with that woman's BIG MOUTH!

It's always great to have the wise counsel, support, direction, and most importantly: COMEDY of my AWESOME Otter Brothers & Sisters!

Thanks, EveryBuddy!

I feel better already!

For the record:

She was FUGULY!!!

In my experience, if she was hot, she wouldn't have been such a B.

She probably would have gone the 'poor little me' routine and we could have settled it right then and there.

But Treesa just said, 'There's nothing to settle. You did nothing wrong.'

The WOMAN (that matters) HAS SPOKEN!!!

damn...sorry to hear it THEEK! I agree with others that you should've called it in before leaving the scene. Also, i hope you took pics of the damage to both cars, the general position both cars were in (if possible) and of the driver and friend as well.

Are you really 100% sure she didn't look at your license plate as you drove away?

But, she probably had no insurance as others suggested.

You had "relations" with some girl's car door?

Is that better or worse than a picnic table?

Oh cool another THEEK driving mishap thread. Did you spit in her face after she cussed you out? Mr. King your encounters with women drivers never turn out well for some reason.

Wasn't a big deal? Yep, you're fine. But knowing YOU, you'll end up tazed outside your home and we'll see you on COPS LIVE!

OH, MAN!!!

You guys are G-R-E-A-T!!!

(Especially LASERMOVIES and how he always takes the time to search out my old threads and post them as evidence against me! )

Well, I called the Police (spoke to an Officer that was the nicest Cop I've ever spoken to in my entire life, BTW), and he took all of my information.

MAN, OH-MAN!

It's SO NICE to feel clean!

After hearing you all callin' me a 'hit & runner' I was starting to feel like a criminal, even though I didn't do anything!

But now I can sleep sweet and have a fine evening with my Special Lady.

I thank you and Treesa thanks you too for urging me to do the right thing in making that call. &

-Paul & Tree
