honeymoon in vietnam and possibly cambodia or laos

Hey guys--we were going to try to squeeze thailand and vietnam in together during our honeymoon but figured that would be a bit too hectic and not leave enough time for celebrating So, we cut it down to just Vietnam and maybe throwing in a stop or two in Cambodia or Laos if nearby and something cool to do.

Itinerary: Leave: April 27th, return May 11 (right at 13 days). Will take 1 day for flying there, nil time for flying back thanks to time zones! Original plan was to fly to Hanoi, visit the north, then make our way down to Ho Chi Minh City.

Anyone know of some great places to see? Restaurants? Hotels? We will probably splurge a few nights with higher end hotels, but we are rather non-hoity toity people.

Want to do some hiking, would love to see some rainforest and great views. Although overnight hikes seen less appealing, they arent 100% ruled out. Would love to see some pagodas and temples. And lastly, would love to finish in a beachy area and just chill for a few days.

We have the lonely planet guide but thus far, i havent made it more than a few pages in Anyone ever go there or know of some cool places to go? Any advice is appreciated (minus the go buy a cheap hooker for my hubby, etc. )

I'm planning a solo trip to Vietnam - so I'm tagging along hoping for some real answers too

Sadly - the airlines I'm considering flying thanks to airmiles only fly into the South, so I'll need to stay localized to that region...

I would love to go just so when anyone complains to me about something being too difficult I can tell them "Hey, I was in 'Nam, I don't wanna hear it". Hopefully they will be really bad with math.

they have frequent trains that visit the north, including overnight trains for an option so you dont lose a day traveling
