Rum suggestions

I've always liked rum but haven't, until recently, drunk anything nicer than Bacardi Black/Select. I bought a bottle of Pyrat XO Reserve. That stuff is INCREDIBLE!! Smooth, great citrusy undertones, and it goes GREAT with a bit of coke.

So, now I'm all set to try some other rums of this caliber. So what would you suggest for around $25?

Cockspur Bajan Crafted Rum 12 (years old)

I don't recall how much it costs, but I think it's around $30 - $40 in Washington's state owned/controlled/taxed for profit liqour stores.
(which means $20-$25 probably anywhere else)

For a non-spiced rum, this is my go-to bottle:

Though it may be slightly more than $25, usually I find it for $29 or so.

I like Cruzan's stuff a lot.

If you're spending more than $20 on the bottle, you shouldn't be mixing the rum with high fructose corn syrup. Mix it with Captain Morgan, Parrot Bay, Bacardi Gold, etc. All decent "mixing" rums.

Best rum I ever had was some local mango-flavored rum I had from the Bahamas. Delicious, and deliciously inexpensive.

Mixing Pyrat XO Reserve is like mixing an 18-year old Single Malt with soda.

...its from the people who do Effen vodka. Very very smooth, easy to drink straight.

Pussers was one of my favorites until Washington state decided to no longer stock it and I had to find another rum - damn I hate washington state's liqour laws & state-run stores.

Another vote for Sailor Jerry's -- also, if mixing rum w/ Coke, use Mexican Coke (sweetened with sugar cane) -- not the corn syrup crap we have in the US.

BEST DRINK EVER: Is Zaya. Not only the best rum, but the best drink I've ever had. Very smooth. Don't mix it with anything. Just sip it and enjoy!

Zacapa Centenario 23year old rum is almost as good. Very hard to find though.

Zaya is getting increasingly more popular (thank God!!!) and I've heard you could even find it in some supermarkets for $23. I've paid twice that for this stuff and it's more than worth it.

Haven't had it since college, it was good then. The bottle's pretty kick-ass though.

Agreed. Zaya is quite excellent as well. Haven't had some in a while, but my usual place has it in stock almost all the time.
