simple tax prep question

im going to help my GF do her taxes soon (late, i know) and hers should be pretty simple (just a W2 from work, few other minor things) and we will use the online turbo tax like we did last year. is there anything specific she needs to do to get the economic stimulus tax rebate? does she need to fill out a certain form or does it just come automatically? thanks.

That has nothing to do with filing her 2007 taxes. As long as she files and she qualifies she will get something as part of the stimulus rebate.

Nothing like waiting till the last min. ;) You don't have to do anything. When you file next years return ask this question.

Venusian 03-11-08 01:40 PM

last minute? You have another month

Th0r S1mpson 03-11-08 01:41 PM

-rolleyes- You're missing all her signals, dude. The correct response at the time was "I've got your stimulus package right here."

Assuming her AGI is less than $55,000 or so, she can file for free through the IRS' website: www.irs.gov

Or, if she's a State Farm customer at any income level, she can get free basic or deluxe Turbotax filing.

Or, since her taxes are so easy, you could impress her by doing it by hand on paper forms.

And why do you capitalize "GF" and "W2", but don't capitalize "i" or "turbotax"?

With the given story plot and the question you have is his punctuation? How about why feed the cow if you're not getting the milk? or If you promised to help her get her stimulus package, is she going to return the favor?

I just did mine with Turbo Tax, when you finish, there will be a pa
ge that will let you know. Here is a link for the Tax Freedom Project from Turbo Tax.

It just cost me $9.00 to file the state because nothing is free in California.

there are lots of places you can file for free, assuming you meet the income cap, and some other requirements. I did mine thru turbotax's website, but there are others.

You can e-file your CA state taxes free as well. The only downside is you will have to re-enter the info. I'm a cheap bastard so I'd rather save the ~$10, but it's up to you. I've used it for the past few years and have had no problems.
