Warren Buffet Is Now The "World's Richest Person"
March 6, 2008 8:16 a.m. EST

Cecilia Arceo - AHN

San Francisco, CA (AHN) - Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Chairman Warren Buffett is worth $62 billion, ending Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates' 13-year run as the world's richest man, according to Forbes magazine's yearly list of billionaire's.

Buffet's wealth rose by $10 billion last year to $62 billion mostly from his company's shares. Buffett has stakes in a range of companies, including Coca-Cola, Procter and Gamble and Tesco.

Gates' fortune rose by $2 billion to $58 billion. He is now ranked third in the list behind Carlos Slim Helu, a Mexican telecommunications magnate who has a net worth of $60 billion.

Lakshmi Mittal, an Indian steel entrepreneur was fourth and one of the four Indians in the top 10. Brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani, whose father founded the Reliance Group of Companies ranked fifth and six.

The list's top European, Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad, was seventh with $31 billion and Kushal Pal Singh, moved from 54th place to No. 8 with $30 billion as head of property developer DLF Ltd.

Russia's richest man, Oleg Deripaska with $28 billion ranked ninth and retired German supermarket magnate Karl Albrecht was 10th with $27 billion.
There sure are a lot of Indians in the Top 10. I guess that is a result of a lot of our jobs going over there.

Mukesh and Anil Ambani's father was literally living in the streets and started with nothing.

There sure are a lot of Indians in the Top 10. I guess that is a result of a lot of our jobs going over there.

My last job the owner was an indian dude. The company was doing great, I worked there for 2 years and never got a raise, neither did anyone I know. While the boss drove around in a mazzeriti.

I no longer work there...

No one in America ever owned any of the jobs to claim that they are yours.

Did you ever think you did not deserve a raise?

No, the owner didn't deserve him. That's why Maxwell left.

Buffett overtakes Gates to top new Forbes list: report
Fri Oct 10, 8:24 AM ET

(Reuters) - Warren Buffett has overtaken Bill Gates to become the richest American in the Forbes 400 list, Bloomberg said, citing a recalculated list to be published later this month.

The magazine, in its October 27 issue, recalculates the effect of September's financial news on the wealthiest Americans, those who make up its Forbes 400 list, the agency said.

The Berkshire Hathaway Inc chairman added $8 billion to his net worth in a 33-day period, August 29 to October 1, to reach $58 billion, the agency said, citing the magazine.

Buffett overtook the Microsoft Corp co-founder, whose net worth declined $1.5 billion to $55.5 billion during the 33-day period, the agency said.

Bill Gates had been number 1 on the Forbes list for 15 consecutive years, the agency said.

Las Vegas Sands Corp Chief Executive Sheldon Adelson's net worth declined $4 billion during the period, the steepest drop among Americans who lost $1 billion or more during the credit crisis, the agency said.

Forbes could not be immediately reached by Reuters.

Berkshire is 107800. It was 100000 in 06'. Pretty funny that a 7K shift in share price only translates to a 7% increase.

4 Indians in Top 10 have nothing to do with American Jobs moving to India. They are self-raised Czars with humble beginnings. People who have benefited from the American Jobs moving to India are generally in IT, Services industry.

I'm more impressed with the number of Russians on the list. Especially, since they are relatively young, compared to the others on the list.

From the stats it seems that when you are about to reach 40, better emigrate to Russia.
