I've got my eye on the AT&T Tilt at $149.99. I've had success with some refurb products in the past, but am hesitant on this. Anyone have prior experience?

Considering all the known potential problems with a Tilt I would be very hesitant to buy a refurb.

If you are a new customer you can get the Tilt for $150 or less with a 2 year commitment. I just picked up two for -$25 AR.

I purchased two refurbished Audiovox SMT5600 Smartphones through them a couple of years ago (for $29.99 each, I believe). Both phones were cosmetically flawless, but they didn't do a great job of wiping the previous user's information on mine, since there were still text messages to the effect of "cant wait 2 lie next 2 u again" among the sent items. Obviously, I received a new SIM with the phone, so Windows Mobile must store that type of stuff on the phone itself. There were no photos left behind, though.

My wife's phone started having some signal strength issues within the warranty period, which they replaced with no problems. We just had to send the old one back in order to avoid getting charged for the replacement phone.

Buy it on a credit card that extends the manufacturer's warranty.

I bought a refurbed treo 750 for 99 bucks via Premier a few months ago. Case was immaculate and was totally like new. last week it stopped charing so they sent me out a new one and it is also immaculate (it's even got the AT&T logo where as my old one still said cingular).
Go for it!
