89 Frozen Ferrets Found in Va. Home

From Associated Press
January 30, 2008 4:45 PM EST

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Authorities removed nearly 200 animals from a Virginia Beach home, including 89 frozen ferret carcasses. Police spokeswoman Margie Long said animal control agents found more than 100 live ferrets, a dog, a bird and three cats, most of them suffering from dehydration and malnutrition.

Long said the frozen bodies of 89 ferrets, a cat, a rat and an otter were discovered in freezers in the house and garage.

Sixty-one of the live ferrets had to be euthanized because of poor health.

Another failed small business. Ferret on Stick just doesn't play in this country.

That sucks. I've always thought a ferret would make a cool pet... but 100+?!? no thanks!

This is the first time I have heard of hoarding ferrets.

I suppose they froze the dead ones to feed to the live ones?

Raising your own food works better when you have room for them to graze.

I don't understand why they were frozen...
WEre they trying to hide the bodies. Everybody knows you ground them up and put the remains in concrete mix if you want to hide dead animals.

Oh man, this is just a bummer!!!

Glad my ferret is warm and toasty today at home. And that I haven't put her through the full washing machine cycle... again... recently.

They're made into coats, scarves, mitts, etc.

Uh, you're thinking of minks and ermines, the ferret's larger cousins. Domesticated ferrets aren't used for anything like that. At least, not in the US.
