I work in an office with over 200 people, and I've noticed every woman over 40-ish that still has long hair also has their bangs cut short.
Why is this? One length hair looks so much better (IMHO).
Please, Otter, school me!

I can't speak for anybody else, but I wear bangs -- sometimes over my forehead, sometimes feathered back, sometimes wispy poking out from under a hairband -- because they soften the face more than one-length hair. Also, I have very thick hair, and if I try to wear it one length I look like one of the Manson Women.

I don't want to look like I did when I was a kid. My mom and aunt are in the over-40 long hair with bangs club.
You can sort of see the no bangs thing, I'm just showing off the length in this pic

PrincessT: you have beautiful hair.
I just thought of another reason I don't grow my bangs out -- mine tend to break off if they get too long.

Oh, and here's a hilariously straightforward Wikipedia article on the subject. I particularly love the muffin pic...

I haven't worn bangs in eons. I used to hate my prominent forehead when I was younger but now I really like it.
Often when I see women in bangs, I want to brush them away so I can see their forehead. I think foreheads make you look smarter.

And you either get bangs, the old hippie look, or the woman who doesn't care anymore and chops her hair off and perms it cause 'it's easy to take care of..'

<-----41, very long hair, no bangs. I've been thinking of getting bangs though; maybe I'm showing my age.
