Rain Forest Cafe - anyone been?

I think when I hit Chicago next week, I'm going to go to the Rain Forest Cafe. It's been recommended by a few people at work, and it sounds pretty neat and is close to other areas I'll be. Has anyone been? How's the food? Pricey?

I went to the one in Atlantic City. Food was okay I guess, I don't remember it being terrible or great.

Crap.

If you have kids....it is worth checking out. If you don't....and/or you don't want to deal with kids, go somewhere else.

ps. You are going to CHICAGO for a chain.....that makes baby jesus cry.

Neat place but be prepared to wait, I had to wait in Orlando for 45 minutes.

I've eaten at the Denver location (which I think is closed now). The atmosphere is fun for kids, but the food is nothing special.

I was so unimpressed by the Niagara Falls, Canada location when we went four or five years ago. Food was sub-par and over-priced, the service sucked. If you're interested, I'd recommend walking in and pretending to check out the menu, maybe use their bathroom facilities. For the most part, you'll get to see most of what there is to see.

I'd agree that if you're in a place like Chicago, there are scores of other places where you can eat and get value for your money.

its OK, not worth the price. Sometimes I stop there when I'm out at the mall. It's nothing special.

The food is ok, basically like Chili's or Bennigans. The atmosphere is pretty cool though. I've been to a couple of different ones, and they are different from each other. The one I go to in Galveston has a Volcano outside that erupts every hour, inside they have a Pirate of the Caribbean style boat ride inside. The other was a mall location that featured no special attractions.

More fun if you have kids, but pretty neat to try once.

It's your standard "theme restaurant" fare. Nothing special, nothing awful, just there.

If you have kids, they'll love it, with the fish tanks, themed areas, simulated rainshowers and lightning storms and obligatory gift shop. But I can't see a lot of appeal for an adult, especially considering you'll likely have a 45+ minute wait if you go during regular dining hours.

What type of place do you work at where MULTIPLE people have recommended it?

I've never been to Chicago, but why go there to go to a theme restaurant that's all over the country anyway? why not try something like Morton's?

Me too ... maybe he can have lunch at the Hard Rock across the street, then dinner the next nights at Chili's or TGIF.

kids love it - other than that, PASS!

Food is around TGI Fridays or Ruby Tuesday's type quality and costs about 50% more.

You should be able to fine 1000 better places to eat in Chicago with your eyes closed.

My seven year old thinks it's cool because of all the mechanical moving crap there and all the loud noises. I, on the other hand, don't really care for it, but the little guy does so I take him on occasion.....

Look, no one's saying you have to go to Alinea, but the fucking Rainforest Cafe? Really?

Just go to Friendly's and surround yourself with fake potted plants and some stuffed Beanie Babies. There, I saved you the trouble.

but I agree with Minor Threat, the kids love it.

We got the kids some of those stupid strobe light cups the last time we were there, I thought I was going to have a seizure

What I could not understand was the table of about 8 adults sitting next to us. They all also had the flashing cups and appeared to be enjoying themselves, no kids at the table at all.

On a college dorm excursion we went to Gino's East of Chicago and (I believe) Johnny Rockets, it was a '50s diner with servers that were supposed to give you attitude. Aside from that I have been to the Billy Goat Tavern a couple of times and I had a nice brat with sauerkraut on the Navy Pier.

If you are traveling somewhere why not try something local?

I went to one in Vegas. Not a single endangered animal on the menu. Be prepared for the bait and switch.
