We are now Pastor-Less!

So with our wedding a mere 12 days away, we find that we have no pastor. The one we had scheduled (and sent a check though he hasn't cashed it yet) is moving to Georgia. He is flying in that day, but for an unrelated, conflicting event.

Are you serious? Boy, the bride must be hyperventilating...

Did you sign a contract with him? Can you ask him to find you a replacement?

Is he a pastor at your church? If so, and you signed a contract or paid a deposit on the church (which you must have done, to reserve the space), ask them to provide a replacement. It might be someone who doesn't know you as well, but the important thing is that you guys have someone to marry you.

Good luck. Isn't wedding-planning FUN???

Ah, forgot you were in SoCal. You can get a friend appointed by a judge for one day to marry you.

Or, you can have that same friend get the Universal Life Church ordination.

Edit: Here you go, it's called making someone "Commissioner For The Day" (scroll down to where it says "Commissioner For The Day"): "Do you have a friend or family member you would like to have perform your wedding ceremony? We can assist you with this."

You could always go that route.

He is from our church. We are not getting married in the church, but in her parent's back yard. We paid him, but he hasn't cashed the check yet. They are looking into other pastors who may be available, but we may not want one of them (I think there are only 2-4 other pastors). Luckily, the church where we are having our pre-marital counseling has something like 20 pastors, and can probably accomodate us on the short notice if our church doesn't come through.

I just found out officially that or original pastor can't do it, and I couldn't reach the bride, so I texted her and still haven't heard back.

Yeah, if he works for your church, I can't imagine them NOT making some effort to find someone else. If you're part of that faith community, they can't leave you in the lurch like that.

Where are you having your premarital counseling, if I may ask?

I doubt he'd be able to do it, I hear he broke his leg.

So our church still hasn't found us a pastor... and our backup says that their scheduler is out of the office until Saturday. That commissioner for a day thing is looking better and better.

Thats what my friends did for their wedding last year. It was an old family friend and it was pretty cool. You really should look into it.
