do you tip when you are losing?

suppose you are playing poker and are down $100 for the day (all at the same table).

then you win a $25 pot - are you suppose to tip? granted that dealer may not know how bad you are down but do you feel obligated to tip at this point?

when you are up, its easy to tip but when you are losing?

I tip all dealers that make the game more enjoyable for me, regardless of whether I'm losing or I'm winning. If the dealer is a cranky stick in the mud, is inefficient, or generally lousy, they're not getting tipped unless I drag a very large pot (> 10 BBs).

I'm even less inclined to tip at the casinos (mostly in California) that rake $4 on each flop.

I view tipping as appreciation for someone providing a good service. A shitty dealer is providing me with a shitty experience. So fuck them.

I rarely tip unless the dealer is fun, and then it doesn't matter whether I am winning or losing. They didn't help me win or lose, so the least they can do is earn a tip by entertaining me.

I glady tip fun dealers, and may or may not tip a deal who is a downer. I love dealers who talk and keep it light, ones who say 4 words during their shift really suck.

I try to avoid Jason's, "IM MY COUNTRY....." exchanges too.

God you get hammered in front of people from the internet one time in Atlantic City and utter one racially-charged comment and you never live it down.

true - i will definitely tip any HUGE pot but why should i give an extra dollar to win a $25 pot when i just got two huge bad beats which cost me $100? wheres the logic in that?

do i get an extra dollar everytime i get a bad beat to make up for it? why only pay for the good hands but not get paid on the bad ones?

granted the dealer may be great but i dont think i should have to pay when im down.

You shouldn't be tipping based on hand results. You should be tipping based on how you value your experience with the dealer.

If the dealer is shitty and I'm winning 15 hands in a row, I still don't tip. If the dealer is awesome and I finally win a hand after losing 15 in a row, I tip.

You don't have to tip anybody at any time by the way. Of course, not doing it at all will start to be noticed and others will look at you like the cheap fucker you are.

Oh, and I only tip when they leave their shift. They could turn out to be an ass to me, and I won't chance it.

What made your comment so money was the fucking timing of it all. We were getting SLAUGHTERD at that table, and you laid that one out...it almost made the ass-beating we were takging worth it.

If it makes you feel better, that just narrowly beat out having a handle of Seagram's 7 on the blackjack table, next to your cards. I walk into the IP, and this is the first thing I see....classic.

That gets to be a PITA, though, because dealer rotation at the local joints is about every 30 minutes.

but how - not tipping when you lose $100 and then win $25 makes you look cheap? you are DOWN $75. the tip money is still money.

I was doing very well at a BJ table until the dealer hit on 17. Two hands later, she claimed to have 21 when she had 22. This was after myself and other players at the table told her to slow down (she was making mistakes left and right). I took my $1k in winnings and and left w/o tipping. Got a nasty look from the dealer and my only response was "learn to fucking count".

I would have loved to see that. f' her for screwing up. If I can be drunk and count...she should be able to count sober.

So atari, if the dealer comes in and lets say, you drag 3 pots down that take you from -100 to -25, the dealer won't get a tip because you're still down? That's kind of fucked up in my opinion.

She really made the deck run cold after that. I was probably $1200 close to $1300 when the debacle started. Sat down with $200. I figured that was a nice profit and the deck definitely was cold after that.

that sucks because the dealer should be on the players side, not the casinos side. they should want you to win but it looks like she deep down was hoping you would lose.

3 pots? i was talking about one. if i win 3 in a row yes im tipping.

but im saying for any one particular pot. is every won pot worth a tip even if you had just lost 100s before that?
