Mazda 3 Otters listen up.

This works on 06/07 models only.

Hold down the CD and FM/AM radio buttons.

Start car

Wait a few seconds. Radio will say DIS ON

Turn car off.

Start car.

Hit SET and now on the left hand side of the LCD you will have the trip computer!

Hit SET and it cycles thru average miles per gallon, live miles per gallon, miles remaining and average miles per hour.

The trip computer is only "available" on the GT. Well until you do the above.

Your welcome.

Where are you getting this info? I have a Mazda (a 6), but I read several Mazda forums. None of them have any information about this alleged "trick".

Deftones is skeptical...it comes with the territory of working with all those parolees!

No, it comes from reading the shit out of the forums about these cars.

It isn't "alleged" when I just did it 30 min ago. And when many others have done it.

Don't be a hater.

Ok. Fair enough.

Why you'd post such a select topic in this forum, is confusing, though. I mean, I understand why it is there, but here?

I don't care, really. Just a comment.

Because in all these "I need a car" threads quite a few members here have said they recommend a Mazda 3 because they own one. So I thought I would let them know about this.

My radio doesn't say "DIS ON", what is the problem? It isn't an 06 or 07 though, it's a '99. And it's a Honda Accord. How do I get the trip computer?

I have an '86 Chrysler Reliant. It doesn't have a CD player. How do I get the trip computer?

I found that trick too when shopping for mine...but then after sitting in the GT again, I decided to spend the extra and get the leather seats (plus only the GT had the color I wanted with the moonroof).
So, now that the trick/hack has been shared, how's your mileage, either last-tank or cumulative?

I think it is because some members read Mazda forums but have never seen it posted on any.

To be fair, if you look at the thread on the other forum, it was started 2 months ago on that forum. I read them occasionally, and I don't specifically search for topics like this.

Been getting around 25mpg. But that is doing the math after fill up. I have the 2.3L manual. I'll know more in a week or so after using the computer.

Yeah, me too. I've had between 23 and one jaunt up to 29 or so when there was a long road trip with lots of highway miles. Other than that it's slowly rising from 23-25. I've got the sport auto, so I know I lose a little bit there; but my last three cars were manual, so I'm ready to be lazy.
Most of my driving now is city, traffic, stop and go, but even there, it's improving each tank. I've got about 1800 miles on it.

devilshalo: Mine doesn't say Hello, at least as far as I've noticed . Is that covered under warranty?

Honda figures that if you bought a Honda then you must be just one step away from a Stephen Hawking like intellect so they think it would be no problem for you to do all the computing in your head.

I believe the Metra dash kit allows you to change the LCD stuff. Well, it does on the 6's.

Seems to be a problem trying to get the OEM display back into the dash with the kit installed. Besides, I'm not putting an aftermarket radio in at this time. My next thing is to install the Speed3 CAI and exhaust and I'll go from there.
