Help checking the prices of shares in a company...

Hello,

My parents had purchased some shares in a restaurant about 6 years ago and recently got two certificates mailed to them confirming the amount of shares purchased. I have been trying to track down a way to see how much they are valued at but have had no luck. I have an account number and the asset name, but yahoo/google search results have turned up nothing. Any help from the pro's?

Is it a publicly traded company? Just look up the current stock price on any stock ticker.

It appears to be. Ive tried to look it up but I can't find a match by its name (Topz Restaurant to be exact). It has about 15 stores throughout California and a few other states.

most likely

only invest in publicly traded companies that file their financials with the SEC and learn how to read the financial statements. you only invest in companies like this if you have more money than you know what to do with

Don't jump the gun. It looks grim -- but is there contact info for who to redeem from? If it was recently sent to you, and the article lists an old issue, then maybe that issue is resolved. I would call the company to find out how to liquidate these assets and walk away feeling lucky if you get anything for it.

My parents just recently got this in the mail (few days ago). It has two documents, but with official seals, and letters to contact a trust company with any questions. I'll have them give the Trust a call then. Was just curious why after all these years they finally decided to send us 'official' documents with the shares printed, with my fathers name, and information if we choose to sell/transfer the shares to someone else. Why send them if they are now defunct?
