According to Marky Mark (wahlberg) in his not so famous hit song Wildside off Music for the people release in 1991,
(Suzy) wanted to be a chemical engineer, making 50-55 thousand a year...
According to this graph a starting wage is $55,000! (16 years later)

Every couple of years since 1991 i have always wondered what inflation did to that salary and today I was super bored and looked it up and now I would like a discussion on the topic.

Mark Wahlburg was good in the departed but he wasn't Oscar worthy. I think he was a fool to give up such a promising singing career. I mean he could have been the first eminem if he just stuck with it. I mean he came up with dope ass shit like this.............
If you ain't in it to win it
Then get the hell out
I command you to dance
I wanna see motivation
Come on now feel the vibration
PURE MOTHERF_IN GENIUS. Then he just pissed it all away for a movie career a f-in movie career and all it got him was a oscar nomination.
otherwise IMO

And since when did the minimum wage reflect changes in free market compensation? You are comparing a government imposed floor on salaries which would have been lower if not for the government coercion to the true market value of chemical engineer labor.

Chem E's were in demand for some reason in the early '90s. Demand has lessened over the years so starting salary is more in line with other engineering majors now.
And don't worry about Susy, she's been getting regular raises througout the years.
And for what it's worth, I have a degree in engineering but not chem e, I hated chemistry.

LOL, I'm the OP. I googled "chemical engineer 55 thousand" in my quest to research the topic at hand (forgetting all about this thread) and this is the third thing that came up, 5 years later!

http://chenected.aiche.org/chemical-...itial-payback/
Also indicates mid-career, and salaries for several engineering disciplines.
Another source says $66886 is the median starting salary for Chem Es.
Hopefully, Suzy is at least on the mid-career track or possibly a manager or director.

If Mark Wahlberg was in charge of inflation, shit wouldn't have happened like this. He loves his family.

I'm sorry, I just checked the lyrics for the song and Marky Mark does not appear to be using figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That throws his entire singing career into question.
