What's the greatest lesson or lessons your Mom or Dad taught you?

My Dad taught me to always be straight with people. To be honest and transparent, to be a man of my word, to make sure to keep my nose clean*, and not to leave any powder trails*, that discipline (not punishment) is the purest form of Love, but most importantly, to learn how to 'Listen'. That alone would take me a long way, he said, and as far as I can tell, he was right!

Thanks, Dad. (Wherever you are...)

My Mom taught me many wonderful things, but the one that stands out the most (apart from being kind), is "The Golden Rule".

For those out there that may not know what it is, it's basically to treat people the way you want to be treated. (You know, that, 'Do onto others' business...)

Because of her daily teaching, encouragement, and example, I've made a habit of sorts out of treating other people the way I wish to be treated.

I mean, I'd be a fool if I didn't want to be treated fairly, with truth and kindness, and I do that even when I feel certain folks don't deserve it, as they rarely if ever return the same, but that doesn't matter all that much because even though I may come in last, I can rest in the fact that I played fair and in truth.

Thanks, Mom! (See you soon...)

(*That is NOT a reference to using cocaine or any other snortable drug, snuff, or narcotic ( ), but rather unfinished business that may at some time in my life come up and bite me on the arse.)

-FOR THEEKSAKE!

When my father told me "If you ever travel back in time, don't step on anything because even the tiniest change can alter the future in ways you can't imagine."

He must have forgotten to tell you the most important lesson my dad taught me: don't put ice on your sack.

Actually my dad lesson was: Don't whine.

Do as I say, not as I do. I spent my childhood planning to live my life without becoming my Dad.

My dad's advice from a very early age was "It's just as easy to marry a rich girl as it is to marry a poor girl."

If you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But if you focus on your family, the needs of others, your work, meeting new people and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you.....

My mom taught me to be kind to animals and always take in a hungry stray, be it cat, person or whatever.

My dad taught me that locking the door while you sleep is always a good thing.

My dad taught me it is always best to lock the door when you, well, engage in self-pleasuring. And never to leave your porno mags in the bathroom. And to always keep them hidden from Mom. And that in between the mattress is not a good place to hide your mags, cause Mom looks there. Best place is to roll them up and put them inside the heating ducts. She'll never look there.

True story:

"Son, the cream of the crop will virtually never be found in human resources."

Thirteen years of professional life in both the private and public sectors and I have to agree completely.

My parents always taught me that if I were to become a thief I should only steal something big because if I got caught I could be proud of what I did and I might get off if I returned the stolen goods. I'm not kidding.

Mine said the same thing. Of course, he was talking to my brother at the time, but I listened just the same. Boy, was he pissed.

To never hock the TV to buy cocaine as that will get you arrested... Not so much told me, as in demonstrated it himself once.

You took your first pinch like a man and you learn two great things in your life. Look at me, never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.

I hope this doesn't mean what I think.
