Just caught a big ass live rat in the basement! (pics)

Two days ago I was cleaning under a cabinet in the den next to where we keep the dog's food and drink. I moved the cabinet and noticed rat droppings and a bunch of his food.

So I cleaned it up and have been putting the dog food away at night.

It looks like I found it just in time. That rat was trying to sign me up for AOL.

So tonight I went into the basement to get something. I heard a noise in the fish tank that was sitting up on some old doors we don't use. Inside the tank we keep the dog food.

So I found a frame and put it on top of the tank and weighed it down. I came back a few hours later and found the rat sitting in the tank. He looks to be about 6-8 inches long.

What do you think about this? Should I take him to the park and release him? Drop some rat poison in there for the ultimate torture and closure? I'm not sure I'm that mean.

How long do rats live? I think this might be the rat I thought I killed a year or two back.

There was a thread but I'm not sure if it's still around. I put down some rat poison and a few hours later some of the pieces were gone so I figured the rat died. But I never smelled any dead rat. I patched up the hole I found that was in an old coal door.

Here's the cutie:

Nice tail!

Wanna adopt a rat?

well definately don't keep him in your house too long, they carry a lot of disease and germs. If you want him to live take him to a dumpster or something? far away from anyones house.

Kill the rat... Seal the top of the tank with the exception of a small hole. Get a full can of Raid or Black Flag ant spray. Spray all the poison into the tank until the can is empty. Seal the small hole. You will be able to watch the rat slowly die from this gassing to death process.... I have done this several times and I love watching it. It is way better than any reality show on TV.

This is an extremely effective way to make sure the rat dies.

P.S. You might need 2 cans of bug spray depending on the size of the tank!

I can see why your name is DeepSleep.

If I tap on the glass too much he jumps back into the dog food bag and I can't see him. He does favor the one spot of the tank though. Both times I went back that was his location.

Better than reality TV? Are you saying this would be enjoyable for my young children? Maybe a positive event in shaping their future?

Check the deed to see if "ginormous rat" was in the fine print somewhere. Getting rid of him might decrease the resale value.

You don't want to take any chances. The gassing process will also kill any fleas/ticks the rat may be carrying. Once the rat is dead, bag the entire fish tank in several heavyweight garbage bags and place in garbage can for pick-up.

But if I dump the tank and dog food with the rat in a dumpster why would I need to gas him?

BTW, I did notice a few small maggots/worms crawling by his droppings in the den.

Having your children (invite their little friends over too!) watch this will teach them the importance of having a strong national defense.

If a little bug spray can kill a rat in a fish tank, what can a dirty suitcase bomb do in a major city? Hopefully your children will get the message and will realize the vital importance being on the offensive in our war on terror...

Rats are exactly like terrorists! They both live to kill on another day.

If you just dump the tank with the rat in a dumpster, the rat will climb out and recruit/give birth to other rats. They will swarm all over your house with disease and bite your children.

You have been giving aid and comfort to the rat! You must kill the rat, just as we need to kill all the terrorists that want to do harm to our great country!

My granddad used to catch small critters that would mess up his well-kept foliage and drown them by placing their cage-traps into buckets of water. I thought it was fucked up when I was 10, and I think the same thing today.

He'd leave the dumpster and find the way back to my house?

Just checked before bed and it's messing up the gravel at the bottom and moved to the other side of the tank.

another tail view

I think he's mad at me even though he has fun fish toys and a quality meal.

put the dog food and other pet food in a metal can or tin garbage can.

I don't know what's at the bottom of the tank, but rats can chew through a lot of stuff. One rat chewed a huge hole through a plastic box and it was a pretty damn thick box too.

You don't have to torture it, just kill it quickly. Don't let it sit in the tank all night, it might figure a way out.

Just give it to your local Chinese restaurant and then order take-out.

Does Ian McKellen visit your house often, dressed in his Nazi uniform?

Well that's pretty fucked up right there!
