New York area travel question

So I have to be in NYC next weekend and it turns out that I have business in the Elizabeth/Union/Scotch Plains area of New Jersey on Friday. My plan is to fly out Thursday night, stay in Manhattan, and cab out to NJ on Friday.

Is this a realistic plan? How long a cab ride are we talking? Let's assume I need to be in NJ at 9:00, so I'll be right in the thick of rush hour -- but heading out of the city.

You'll probably be okay traffic-wise, but you might have trouble finding a cab willing to take you there.

If you're starting in Manhattan, I think you'd be better off taking NJ Transit (either train from Penn Station or bus from Port Authority) to the nearest town and then catch a cab from the station to your local point.

NJT to Elizabeth might be the best bet. Cheapest and no traffic worries. Catch a cab at the station.
